Dell Data Protection | Endpoint Recovery TM7/6/2015

Changes for Beta 5

  • System State Backup & Restore: We believe this is now fully working. However, we strongly recommend that you not test restore. System state restore – even if working perfectly – is high risk.
  • Disaster Recovery: A number of features we added to assure the ability to recover data in the case of a system crash.
  • Password Hints – Most system passwords (login, data) now have hints that you can define when you create the password. If you fail to enter a password correctly DDPER will prompt with your hint.
  • Attach Destination– In order to get a destination back after system failure, the Destination page now has an Attach Destination option to attach a pre-existing destination.
  • Destination Key file– The key file in a Destination path now includes a password hint and correctly encrypts the data password.
  • Offline Destination Deletes – we now allow deleting a destination that is offline. In that case, the data won’t be deleted but all internal links are deleted for that destination. Otherwise destinations can become permanent orphans if the path is deleted by mistake.
  • Backup policy overwrites – there were conditions under which one user’s policy could be overwritten by a second user by mistake. Those conditions are now repaired – policy names must be system-wide unique.
  • Running invalid policies – invalid backup policies can no longer be “Run Now” in most cases. In complex cases the policy will be run, but error messages are improved.
  • Support Bundle upgrade – the support bundle command now contains options for saving all logs (instead of just the most recent) and whether or not to save the MS Info data (computer description – which takes a while to run).
  • CDP date and time improvements – Continuous data protection (CDP) now adheres to start/stop time and date settings like all policies.
  • Uninstall full removal – uninstall of Endpoint Recovery now includes an option to delete all settings information and uninstall completely.
  • Quickstart Guide – the sparse user’s guide has been replaced by the useful QuickStart guide
  • Setup Repair – the setup repair option now works correctly
  • Destination Delete – there were cases in which deleted destinations could be used after they were deleted due to polling delays. That is repaired.
  • Login with blank name – this was crashing. Repaired.
  • CDP Backups do not autoshadow – CDP backups were consuming too many resources when actively changing locked files due to running an automatic shadow copy each time. Going forward, CDP backups will not run a shadow copy if a file is locked. They will just correctly fail (partially).
  • Proxy Support – the automatic updater may now work through proxies. We haven’t been able to exhaustively test this.
  • Files by Type Report – repaired an issue with counting each revision rather than each file.
