DELEGATES FROM MAURITIUS COOPERATIVE UNION VISITS INDIA

A 5 member’s delegation from Mauritius Cooperative Union Ltd. (MCU) headed by Mr. Pravin Kumar Kasari, Chairman accompanied by the General Secretary & three Board of Directors visited India to know about the functioning of different cooperatives in India to strengthen the relationship between the Cooperative Movement of two countries.

Dr. Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, President, NCUI greeted the visiting delegation from Mauritius on 16th April 2015. During an hour long interaction with the Chairman & other members of MCU, the Chief Executive NCUI also spoke about the recent developments of cooperatives in India. Both President & Chief Executive, NCUI assured full cooperation & support to Mauritius Cooperative Movement in the field of education & training. Recalling, the participation of representatives from Mauritius Cooperatives in the NCCE Diploma programme during 2014, the Chief Executive invited more nominations from Mauritius for participation in the diploma programme.

The visiting delegates from Mauritius also participated in the ongoing leadership development programme organized by NCCE where the faculty members discussed about the role & responsibilities of Board of Directors in professionally managing cooperative societies. The visiting delegates are also taken to National Cooperative Development Corporation along with the other participants from India.

NCUI also organized the visit of the delegation to IFFCO on 20th April 2015 where the delegation was greeted by Dr. U.S. Awasthi, Managing Director, IFFCO. While interacting with the Chairman, Mauritius Cooperative Union, he enquired about the functioning of bio-fertilizer plant established in Mauritius with financial & technical assistance of IFFCO. Earlier, while welcoming the delegates at IFFCO, Shri R.P. Singh, Director (HR / Legal / CR) mentioned about the two key factors for the success of IFFCO i.e. coherent & focused work culture and passion for excellence. He also emphasized on IFFCO’s goal to empower the farmers of the country and strengthen cooperative movement by following cooperative principles, values for sustainable development.

A corporate film on IFFCO was also shown to the visiting delegates of Mauritius and a brief presentation on activities & achievements of IFFCO that includes sharing areas of cooperation & learning from each other, balance fertilizer use for sustainable agriculture, save the soil campaign etc. were made for the delegates.

The General Secretary of Mauritius Cooperatives Union informed that there are about 1000 cooperative societies in Mauritius having a membership of 1,50,000 that includes as many as 50 women cooperatives. She also informed that savings & credit cooperatives are the strongest among the cooperative sectors in Mauritius. The meeting was also attended by Joint General Manager (CR), Deputy General Manager & other officials of IFFCO.
