Minutes of Board Meeting of November 7, 2014

Meeting #2 (2014-2015) 9:00 a.m. at DCIU #25

Attending: Sheila Bell, Toni Himes, Rosemary Fowler, Annemarie Jay, Denise King, Sue Kulp, Nick Spennato

The minutes of the October 3rd board meeting were approved. We discussed the October 23rd Fall Workshop. Board members expressed that they were pleased with the attendance but not with the content of the presentation. Information presented was readily available on PDE web site.

All Delco Reads information has been sent to schools and libraries. Annemarie will get registration information from our web site. Sue ordered buttons and will get some posters made as forms of advertising the project.

The board reviewed the letter and guidelines for the 2014-2015 Young Authors’ Project. Some revisions were suggested. Annemarie will take care of them and get the letter to DCIU print shop for our December meeting. Guidelines will be posted on the DCRC web site.

Annemarie is stepping down as president. An election will be held in January. Annemarie will compose a letter/ballot that will be mailed to all active members of DCRC. Return date is January 30th; The board will review the ballots at the February 6th meeting.

Treasurer’s Report. Nick gave an update on the funds in both the money market and the checking account. He will file the 990 form due to the IRS before the November 15th deadline.

Committee Reports

  1. International Committee (Sheila Bell): Sheila informed us about ENACTS, an international literacy project in Tanzania. The board agreed to send $250 for that cause. The board also agreed to send $250 to MedLife which also focuses on literacy and other broader issues.
  2. Community Literacy Involvement (Sue Kulp). Sue informed us about the number of grant requests received for All Delco Reads. Grant requests were due by November 3rd. She will send the forms and money to Reading Matters and inform schools that they will be awarded the grant.
  3. Membership (Lorraine Algazy; Mary Ellen Goldfarb). Neither co-chair was present for today’s meeting. Annemarie informed the group of the membership numbers as of KSRA’s October report: 38 active members and 28 inactive members.
  4. Archives (Sue Kulp). No report today.
  5. Honor Council – (Toni Himes). Toni informed the board of the changes in the IRA requirements (now due on Nov. 26th) and about the electronic submission. She asked for some documents such as Long-range plan and Celebrate Literacy information as well as IRA membership numbers from our board.
  6. Website Committee – (Ina Galer). Ina did not attend today’s meeting; no report.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m. The next meeting of the DCRC board will be held on Friday, December 5, 2015 at the DCIU at 9 a.m.
