Why was this company the right choice for you?

I started work with Pilkington NSG Group on an eight week Group Information System Summer Placement at the end of my second year at university. This was invaluable in gaining an insight into the practical uses of my degree and was made even more enjoyable by the pleasant working environment. My link with the company continued as I completed my third year university dissertation with the Specialist Systems Department. During these placements I gained further insight into how a global industry leader could maintain such high standards which only increased my aspirations to work for this company.

Which aspects of your role do you enjoy most?

Since joining the Graduate Scheme in September 2009 I have been exposed to a wide range of experiences. In my first role with the Web Team there was a lot of interaction with colleagues from different departments in multiple global locations which helped me to develop my communication and networking skills. The Graduate Scheme has allowed me to undertake both support and development positions which I have found challenging yet enjoyable. I also look forward to experiencing the wide range of opportunities for both travel and promotion which exist from the start.

What have you learnt from your training?

Training with NSG Group is an ongoing affair as a large amount of time is invested in all new graduates This includes an internal management course which involved studying various techniques to handle different situationsand it has been reinforced by spending eight months in each of the three main areas within Group IS. From both an assigned mentor and internal management structure there is always support and guidance available from when you join the company.

What are your future plans within the company?

I look forward to completing the Graduate Scheme and obtaining a permanent position within Group IS. Ideally the role would encompass all I have learnt in the last two years and enable me to gain more responsibility within my chosen department. I hope for a long, fruitful and rewarding career with the company.
