Defending Your Mastery Level – PRECALCULUS HONORS
If you …
· took the Precalculus Fall Final,
· have been actively working (ie..completing practice problems, annotating notes, updated summaries…) to improve your mastery level
· feel like your assessment grade does not accurately show what you understand and can do in mathematics
then you can complete a Defense to show your understanding and improve your grade.
Process to Defend Your Mastery Level
In order for you Defense to be graded all of the following must be completed and turned in by Jan 5th.
o Notify me by January 3, 2017
o Name
o Concept Category you would like to defend
o Identifying your Errors: Error Analysis from your Fall Final on the Concept Category you want to defend. Complete the following on your assessment:
o Highlight your error
o Describe the type of error
§ Problem Solving: “not sure where to start; time”
§ Misconceptions: “thought you knew what you were doing but key shows a different pathway”
§ Procedural: “approach is correct & minor error in procedure”
o What questions do you have?
o What have you learned?
o Practice Problems You must do a minimum of 3 practice problems for each question on the Fall Final that you did not get fully correct.

§ If you got Test Question #4 incorrect, then do a minimum of 3 questions from Pg 309 #43-62
§ If you got Test Question #2 incorrect, then do a minimum of 3 questions from Pg 913 #19-32
§ If you got Test Question #3 incorrect, then do a minimum of 3 questions from Pg 922 #11-26

§ If you got Test Question #2 incorrect, then do a minimum of 3 questions from Pg 368 #11-48
§ If you got Test Question #3 incorrect, then do a minimum of 3 questions from Pg 368 #49-68
§ If you got Test Question #4 or 5 incorrect, then do a minimum of 3 questions from
Pg 378-380 #1-28 and from Pg 369 #89-101

o Connecting what you learned to what you already know
o Articulate: Explain what you have learned from your defense assignment
o Visual: Show all different representation of the Concept Category, graph, equation, table… etc. in the form of a concept map or flow chart.
o Summary: Summarize the concept category in writing using formal mathematical reasoning and vocabulary.
