PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

A lot has happened since my last club message - on a national level, we're involved in an overseas war none of us wanted, but which we will eventually win. Domestically, the way we conduct our lives may never again be the same. Thank goodness we have our families, friends and loyal companions to help us through these difficult times.

The club had another very successful fall test, with well over 100 dogs entered. The raffle netted in excess of $2,000, so we remain in sound shape financially. Thanks to Tom Johnston and Robert Patton for doing such a good job coordinating our efforts, and to all the other folks who enabled us to maintain our reputation for putting on a first class event.

I hope hunting season has gone well for those of you in pursuit of the wily duck, goose, pheasant or deer. We took our sea duck raffle winners out on the Chesapeake Bay in mid-November, and based on their enthusiastic reaction, we'll be selling them tickets again next year.

Everyone please have a safe and happy holiday season, and we'll see you all at the banquet in January.

Happy Hunting,

Lloyd

NEW CLUB WEBSITE

As we are dragged screaming and kicking into the 21st century, the club now has its own website! It contains general club information, and will eventually contain edited newsletter archives, a list of all NPRC titled dogs and an up-to-date calendar of events. It will not contain specific directions to our events, to avoid attracting any AR activists, but that information will always be available to you through our newsletters, and you can also contact one of the officers whose email addresses are listed on the site. We’ll be able to post many more pictures than can be published in the newsletter, so check back every once in awhile to see what’s new. If you have any suggestions, please let the Webmaster know, especially if you have any interesting links about which you’d like to tell the rest of us. The URL is

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE MISSING… By Robin

For those of you that do not come to the Upland Hunt Weekend held in Perry County, PA in the early part of November each year, you are missing out on a great time. Let me tell you a little bit about the weekend.

Where else can you drive up and enter the gates of Jurassic Park and not worry about being eaten by any dinosaurs? Okay, so maybe you have to watch out for the elk and buffalo with bad attitudes but… no dinosaurs.

Where else can you drive around on ATVs all weekend and look at all the beautiful surroundings? Okay, so maybe hitting a tree or being chased by an elk that says to get out of his pasture is not your idea of a good time, but where is your sense of adventure?

Where else can you shoot clay pigeons and watch an elk play Frisbee with the clay target? Okay, so may- be the elk needs some work on his retrieving but he does at least “mark” the fall and he is not gun shy.

Where else can you have a first row seat at the Tom Johnston Story Telling Comedy Show? Okay, so maybe Tom does get carried away a little with the forks but you just move to the second row and wear eye protection.

Are you asking yourself – what about the hunting? I’ll tell you about the hunting. It does not get any better. Picture yourself, walking along in a field, with your dog hunting back and forth, your buddy and you watching the dog start to get birdie, your heart is racing, and all of a sudden the bird goes up, the guns go off and bird falls to the ground. You say your dog’s name and he goes flying out, picks up the bird and parades back to you with dinner.

So make your plans now for next year. Dennis and Sherry put on a great hunt, lunch, and dinner and maybe you can even get a ticket for Tom’s show. I’m telling you, a better weekend you will not have.

A BIG THANKS to Dennis, Sherry and everybody else that make this event the best…

WAY-TO-GO

Carol Lewis and Locy Two Senior Passes at the NAHRA Benefit – MHR Title!!

Robert Patton and GracieTwo Started Passes at VRA Test in November - SR Title!!

I didn’t get too many results from your fall tests, so if you haven’t given me your brags, please let me know. Also, please let Karen Johnston know about your 2001 titles so they can be put on the Club plaque in time for the January banquet. Karen needs the owner name, dog’s registered and call names and exact titles (NAHRA WR and above and AKC SR and above). We’ll also be putting a club history of titled dogs on the website, so make sure Karen has your current information, and let Larry know of any historical titles you’d like listed and we’ll get them all caught up.

SPRING TEST UPDATE

Pending NAHRA and Game Commission approval, our spring test this year will be a triple senior, run on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We’ll plan on running one test on Friday, and the other two on Saturday and Sunday. After concentrating the last two years on Started and Intermediate tests, this will give us an opportunity to attract a large number of senior dogs hoping to qualify for the RAW Invitational. We also hope moving the test back two weeks will enable more dogs to run.
