Newsletter – April 2012

NEWS
Welcome back after the Easter break. We welcome Bonnie, Millie, Kian and Lila to Nursery. We hope you quickly settle in and enjoy your time with us. Our theme for this term is "UP- UP- AND -AWAY". We will also be revisiting Sign language.

Last term was a bumper fund-raising term! Firstly we had the Go Karting Event at Formula Fast where 12 teams faced a two hour endurance race against each other. We have raised a whopping £1000 so far!!
Congratulations to Colin Payne and his team who were the champions on the evening - I'm sure next year will be even more competitive!!! Thank you to Neil Skinner for his efforts in pulling everything together for the event and to Sarah Payne for stepping in to support the sweepstake. The following day was our jumble sale and we had a long line of people queuing up to pick up a bargain or two almost an hour before the doors to opened at 11! Thanks to everyone who helped out, made cakes, left donations, came to buy, to Deddington Parish church, to Louise and all at Bo Peep farm for the loan of the tables, and to everyone else who helped. You helped raise a rather significant amount of money...... £1700
We will be holding an open afternoon at the Nursery on Wednesday 4th July from 3.30 to 4.30pm. Please encourage any parents you know who are thinking of sending their children to the Nursery to come along, meet the staff, see the setting and ask lots of questions! We would love to see them.
Our PFSU and Nursery Sports Day will be held on the playing field behind Deddington Primary School on Friday 15th June from 11am ( start at 11.15am ). Bring a picnic to eat on the field afterwards. This is always a fun occasion, and we hope as many as possible of you will be able to come. More details coming soon!
Don’t forget our fund-raising party on Saturday 7th July at the Windmill Centre. With an action-packed summer including the Olympics and the Jubilee, the chosen theme is ‘Show your true colours - Red, White & Blue' which we feel will encompass all of these fabulous events in one!! So grab your gladrags, invite your friends and family to a great night outand get on board with our fantastic summer extravaganza - there will be food, drink and music and if it can be half as good as last year then we are onto a winner!!! Tickets are priced at £20 per person which includes a welcome drink, food and entertainment.
There is lots to organise for this event therefore if you are interested in getting involved ( it’s great fun! ) either before or over that weekend (7th & 8th July) then please contact Bev on . She’d be happy to welcome you on to the team! We are also on the look out for unusual, creative or special auction and raffle prizes, including promises of help to iron, clean, babysit, dog walk etc. The auction is the main fundraising part of the evening so the more unusual or more attractive the prize the more money we hope to raise. Again please contact Bev if you can help.
/ IMPORTANT NOTICES
Thank you to everyone who attended our Easter bonnet parade. It was lovely that so many of you could join us. Everyone enjoyed the children’s unique versions of Little Peter Rabbit, Hot Cross Buns, Chick Chick Chicken and others. The Easter hat parade showed off everyone’s fantastic and imaginative creations and the Easter hat award went to Bailey with his wonderful bird hat. After following the Easter trail around the field everyone enjoyed the Easter Egg hunt and lots of cakes!
You may have noticed the work on the Nursery building that was carried out during the Easter holidays. For this we would like to say an enormous thank you to our local builder Richard Spencer, who generously did the structural repairs for free. In addition we would like to say thank you to the fabulous team of helpers who gave up their Saturday to help clean toys and decorate the office area. They are Robin and Kate Oldroyd, Jack Dent, Paul Onions, Martin Smith, Sarah Roche, Sarah Inkpen and Rachel O’Connell. Thank you everyone!
We welcome Jo Bull to the Nursery team. Jo will be working at Nursery until the summer holidays.
May we draw to your attention our password system which we use when your child is collected by someone other than the regular person. This is for the safety and security of your child and we hope you will understand that we do ask for the password from close relatives and other parents even when they are well known to your child. To avoid any embarrassment we ask you to please ensure that everyone collecting your child is given the password that you have allocated. If you have forgotten what this is please ask us to remind you!
Ian Taylor will be visiting us on the mornings of Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd May to take informal photographs of the children at play. These will be available for you to buy if you wish. Ian has been visiting the PFSU and Nursery for many years and his pictures are always very popular.

The PFSU will be holding two open afternoons aimed at new and potential PFSU parents ( with or without children ) on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th July from 3.30 to 4.30pm. If your child is coming to the PFSU in September ( or if you are thinking about it ) please come along, meet the staff, see the setting, and ask any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you there.
Our Easter Holiday club was well supported with the children enjoying lots of fun activities including making Easter baskets and Easter cards, and taking part in an Easter egg hunt. Summer Holiday Club will be running throughout the summer and dates will be confirmed soon.
Application forms for PFSU places in September, and to let us know the hours you require, will be distributed shortly, and need to be returned to Nursery by 8th May. Thank you!
