Dear Players and Parents,
Welcome back to the Academy season and we hope your as excited as us for the campaign ahead.
We’ve worked very hard through the summer at putting things in place to improve the Academy both on and off the field so we’re looking forward to a positive season.
We’re also looking for a lot more involvement off the pitch from players and volunteers this season as with new projects, come new responsibilities so your help at times will be required.
We are delighted that the Academy Fields, Gronant LL19 9YP will be our main home this year and we’re sure it’ll be another positive step for the Academy, which over the past few years have been somewhat nomadic in their home fixtures. With the facilities there and the chances to make it a ‘home’, then hopeful it’ll be a place to take pride in.
We are looking heavily into different types of training such as workshop sessions, guest coaches, FAW courses etc as we aim to all our players the best opportunity we can in order to develop.
On Sunday August the 31st, we are holding an Academy Fun day at Bastion gardens, with games for some Academy teams, BBQ, DJ, Bouncy Castle, Auction, Raffle etc and we expect all players to attend. Will hopefully be a great opportunity to have a burger and a beer (parents only!!) and bring the Academy together before we head into the official season.
The USA are providing much of the pre-season opposition, which is great for the lads to experience and we’re sure will be a great benefit to their development.
The trials this year were a great success and we have managed to add to the quality that already existed in order to take the Academy forward and ultimately aim to produce first team players of the future.
It will take sometime for the new players to settle down and learn our philosophy of play but our aim is that the aspects of play we ask our players to understand, will be relevant when required to play at a higher level. This may not have the immediate gratification of success from the outside but we drill into all coaches to try to look at our players in who they will become, not who they are at present.
Our Development Squads have a bit of a later start being back in on Monday August 11th and 18th (depending on age group) so we’re sure they’ll be rearing to go for the first matches in early September.
With our senior Academy, we have extended our contact time with the players slightly so we can work on fitness which s vita at this time of year. We noticed our quality at times was match for anyone last year throughout the Academy but a common theme was late into games we’d struggle with fitness, so this is something we will be monitoring much more throughout the season.
On Weds August 27th we will have a Senior Academy Training day (U12 to U16) where all players will be expected to attend our in-house training workshop and tactical session on how we are going to play. Players are expected, parents are welcome and we will announce this in the next few days.
We have teamed up with a new sports tour company this year and will be sitting down with them in September to discuss some future trips for the players to take part in. This we’re sure will be an added bonus for the Academy players and one, which they’ll no doubt enjoy.
All players have had a player booklet this year, which explains what’s expected at the Academy, what our aims are for them individually, as well as payment and kit information. Please make sure you are aware and current in this information.
We are delighted to welcome Lido Beach as a sponsor and partner this year with the aim to have them stage events through the season to assist with the Academy.

Matchday Volunteers wanted! We are looking for a few people to help us with the matchday preparations for the Academy this coming season, ie setting pitch out, fundraising, general assistance etc so if you can spare some time on a matchday to get involved please email
