Learning Goals and Objectives

LEARNING GOALS:

This class is designed to raise the student’s understanding and mastery of art skills, vocabulary, and techniques used to create art. They will understand and apply thinking skills using artistic processes. They students will be able to communicate through the visual arts, as well as make connections through art with life and other subject areas.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

The students will create their own art work using a variety of art materials, and applying art techniques and skills that they will have learned. The students will feel a sense of pride in successfully expressing themselves and communicating their thoughts through the use of the art elements and principles. They will learn a healthy and enjoyable form or self expression and entertainment.

CRITERIA FOR EARNING GRADES AND CREDITS:

  • Completion of ART601will earn 1.0 Carnegie Units.
  • Either A, B, P or “No Credit” will be awarded for this course.
  • Each assignment is closely tied to the State Standards; therefore completion of each assignment is needed to demonstrate mastery as well as to gain credit.

RELATIONSHIPS TO OTHER CONTENT AREAS AND TO REAL WORLD PRINCIPLES:

The visual arts can be a lens in which to discover the world and other content areas in a completely new way. Visual art can be seen represented everywhere around us in our daily world; and we make aesthetic decisions everyday. We can make more informed and aesthetically pleasing decisions in our life and world if we experiment with, and become more in tune with the principles that affect the way the elements interact with one another. Class projects will allow students to express their feelings and opinions on current events and real world issues.
