SPECIAL NOTES!!!!

IN APPRECIATION:

To all the Concert Ticket and Gift Card sellers....Many thanks to everyone who stood in for me, while I was away from choir for a couple of weeks. In particular Bill Hanson, Jo Volek, Jessica Whittingham and many others whose names I didn't get (since I wasn't there).

We got a good head start on Concert Ticket sales and an amazing amount of money raised for both the Power of Hope and the Caia Connection with the sale of Gift Cards.

See you all in the New Year.

APPRECIATIONS

EXPERIENCING THE HIGH NOON CHOIR

In April of 2013 Rev. Jim Lauder of the St. Iris Faith Community visited a High Noon Choir practice at the invitation of an HNC member and then joined the choir for the remainder of that Spring’s season.

In a recent email exchange that I had with him on other matters he included the following words:

I might make it to the high noon choir one of these days as it was a beautiful spiritual experience!

Gloria was especially inspiring, to the extent that I wrote a homily centred around my experience at choir.

To open a copy of his homily, which he entitled “Gloria Victoria”click here.

WORD OF MOUTH / RECOMMENDATIONS

For supporting and celebrating 'others' whose businesses / actions / way of being / kind words - whatever! - have helped you, us and/or our world grow, come alive and/or prosper.

INSPIRING MOVIE:

A great movie to watch is called "Unfinished Song" and stars Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp. It's about a community choir for seniors with a fiesty upbeat unconventional director who gets them to "sing outside the box". Vanessa Redgrave's character, Marion, is ill and her husband (Terence Stamp) loves her dearly but is quite a curmudgeon who reluctantly takes her to choir practice throughout her illness. It's a delightful story of triumph and the power of music. It features our "Goodnight my Angel" song along with many other great tunes. Available at Pic-a-Flic and/or the library.

Editor’s Note

Amber mentioned this movie at choir last week and I have since taken it out of the library and watched and I also recommend it.

RE-GROWING CORAL REEFS

Biologist Kristen Marhaver studies corals, tiny creatures the size of a poppyseed that, over hundreds of slow years, create beautiful, life-sustaining ocean structures hundreds of miles long. As she admits, it's easy to get sad about the state of coral reefs; they're in the news lately because of how quickly they're bleaching, dying and turning to slime. But the good news is that we're learning more and more about these amazing marine invertebrates — including how to help them (and help them help us). This biologist, and TED Senior Fellow, offers a glimpse into the wonderful and mysterious lives of these hard-working and fragile creatures.

PAST AND/OR DISTANT VOICES

DEAR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS OF INSTRUMENTS4AFRICA,

(an initiative of Innovative Communities.Org)

I have been back for almost 3 weeks here in Bamako, Maliand my days have been very full so far with a big focus on relaunching our education program with the children of Sabalibougou.

First of all I want to thank all of you who expressed concerns about me returning to Mali considering how volatile it can be here. The terrorist attack at a luxury hotel in Bamako happened just a few days before I was set to go. The feedback we got from our friends here was very clear: it's more dangerous to get hit by a motorcycle in Bamako than being attacked by terrorists (we knew that already...).

Since the roof collapse at the paillotte things had been pretty well on hold. Thanks to a few generous donors, the roof was rebuilt and completed couple of weeks before I arrived. The straw is now supported by…(full text & photos)
