Stories
From the President's pen
Posted by Richard Jarrett on Dec 10, 2013
This week's speaker promises to be really interesting.Anthony Maras will talk to us on "Local filmmakers - global audiences".In years past, would-be filmmakers were heading interstate or overseas to bring their productions to the big screen. But a new generation of South Australian filmmakers are now choosing to base their productions on home soil. Award winning Adelaide-based filmmaker Anthony Maras will discuss this trend, and the South Australian Film Corporation's bold new approach to backing home-grown filmmaking talent. Anthony is a multi-award winning filmmaker having won a plethora of national and international industry awards for his films The Palace, Spike Up and Azadi. After completing a Law Degree at Flinders University, Anthony went on to study film production at the University of California. He currently sits on the board of the South Australian Film Corporation and has previously served as a funding consultant to the South Australian Film Corporation, as an AFI Awards juror, as President of the University of California SB Filmmakers Cooperative and as a board member of the Media Resource Centre.
Last week, we had our Annual General Meeting. A brief meeting in which we accepted the Annual Report (as provided to members at the Changeover Dinner in June), accepted the final accounts for 2012-13, adopted a revised Constitution (in accordance with Rotary International requirements), and elected the Board that will take us into 2014-15.The rest of the meetingwas a Club Assembly where we discussed membership issues.
Under Yvette Reade's guidance as President Elect, the following office bearers for 2014-15 were duly elected as part of the Annual General Meeting:
President / Yvette Reade / Youth / John Karran
President Elect / (vacant) / Membership / Geoff Bell
Secretary / Fred Field / Fundraising/Fellowship / Dean Sullivan
Treasurer / Bruce McDonald / Foundation / David Riggall
Club Service / Ray Cullen / Public Relations / Dalice Kennedy

CHRISTMAS TOYS
Posted by Paul Richardson on Dec 09, 2013
Hello Again. Just a quick reminder to bring in your Toys for Christmas. Toys should not be wrapped. So please bring in a toy for boys or girls aged 7 to 14.
The toys and wrapping paper will be taken by myself to the Salvation Army. They will then wrap the toys and deliver to those boys and girls who have been good this year or at least to those boys and girls who claim to have been good.
CHRISTMAS CASH FOR CANS
Posted by Paul Richardson on Nov 04, 2013
It is cash for Cans for Christmas time again. However, rather than donating cans for Christmas, Theo at the IGA Hutt Street has agreed once again to generously converts the cash into cans at cost price (and even adds a bit in himself). This adds more value to your donation.
The goods are then donated and delivered to the Moore Street Centre. So please save up the cash anddonate $20.00 to this good cause. I will be collecting money in late November so that the goods can be organised by Mid December. So stay tuned for further developments.
GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER
Posted by Katina Jones on Dec 09, 2013
“Jeffrey and I obediently followed the instructions we were given to find our hosts for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. I wasn’t tempted to find out who they were before hand and enjoyed the ‘mystery’ of the unknown!
We found the house, knocked on the front door and there was Rohan with a beaming smile ready to greet us. What a lovely surprise! A few minutes later and another knock on the door and Barry and Barbara Greer floated in. Some laughter, some drinks and Rohan said there was another couple coming. A car rolled up the drive and we all eagerly looked through the window to see who it might be. My neck was stiff, so I just waited to see who would emerge from the front door. It was Fred (Rob) and Barb Field all the way from the Adelaide Hills! And why did I not know they lived so very close to us? Clearly I need to socialise more!
Well, what an amazing dinner Maritana cooked for us. We heard how Rohan kept reminding her not to make the curry too hot! “Not too much chilli!” he would keep telling her throughout the day. Jeffrey and I enjoyed the evening so very much. The company was engaging, the food was excellent, Maritana’s sense of humour had me smiling all night, but most of all, the lasting impression for me was the love and warmth in that house.
Thank you to Maritana and Rohan for the warm and loving hospitality and for such a delicious array of food with tastes that just exploded in our mouths creating a memorable evening.
A big thank you to Deborah Wotherspoon for organising such a fun evening.”

Irish Sugar Test
An Irishman went into a pharmacy, reached into his pocket, took out a small Irish whiskey bottle and poured some out into a teaspoon.
He then asked the chemist, "Could you taste this for me, please?"
The chemist takes the teaspoon, puts it in his mouth, swills the liquid around and swallows it.
"Does that taste sweet to you?" says Paddy.
"It tastes a bid odd, but no, not sweet at all," says the chemist.
"Oh that's a relief," says Paddy. "The doctor told me to come here and get my urine tested for sugar."
