Welcome back Teachers,

Nora here, your Family School Liaison!

A Family School Liaison for Title I School: No school is left behind in Lake County School District! Each Title I School has a Parental Involvement Liaison to assist parents and teachers in supporting the student academic achievement through parental involvement workshops, programs, conferences, activities, events, and publications.

It is that time of year again for Teacher Prescription Pads.

Parent/Teacher Prescription Pads: A pad with a well crafted technique for communicating suggestions and tips for parents to support their children’s learning comes from classroom teachers in the form of prescription pads! Teachers write strategies for parents to use at home with their kids as “prescriptions” to address the learning needs of each child. Parents receive strategies and ideas on homework, test taking, and reading. Just what the teacher ordered!

I would like to remind you how to use your Prescription Pads. Every teacher should have a “Prescription Pad” which is furnished by Title I. If you don’t have one, if you are a new teacher and need one or if you would like one in Spanish, please email me with your , or stop by the Parent Resource Center and pick one up.

These pads are easy to use. You fill out the student’s name, date, your name/grade and subject the student needs extra help in. In the space provided you will write specifically what you would like the student to work on at home (ex. Short vowel sounds, blending cvc words, double digit addition-subtraction, division, etc – what you are covering in class). The parents will be keeping the materials for an average of 2 weeks. some items may be kept longer. We have all kinds of materials; from electronic flash cards to Leap Frogs, laptops (and everything in between). We will now have I Pad available for parents to check out. We even have a program to teach parents to speak English!Sed De Saber.

Once the prescription is written you will then distribute the copies like this: WHITEcopyisgiven to the parent, YELLOW copy to me and you keep the PINK copy. Inform the parent it will take a few days to gather the materials. I will call them when they are ready and will train them on using the materials.

A good time to write a “prescription” would be after a parent/teacher conference. Suggestion: have these available with you during the conference, whether in person or by phone.

All teachers are welcomed to use the Prescription Pads.

I would also like to invite you to stop by the Parent Resource Center and take a look at all of the materials that are available for parents to check out.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding this program.

I am here to promote a good relationship with SCHOOL-PARENT-STUDENT.

Thank you,

Nora Rossodivito
