St. John’s Messenger
Volume 95, Issue 10 October 21, 2015

Dear St. John’s Church family and friends,

We have a wonderful opportunity coming to our congregation on Saturday, November 14!

Pastor Tom Glasoe, who serves the Follmer Lutheran Parish in Pottsgrove, will be leading us in a Saturday workshop. With other congregations in the area who may be joining us, we will be learning the blessings (and sometimes, the challenges) of being a healthy congregation. The Healthy Congregations training opportunities began several decades ago to assist church families to examine our strengths and to consider first steps toward long-range planning.

One of our goals as a congregation is to begin that long-range planning process, and we have this wonderful opportunity to begin that process with a trained leader who lives nearby. Pastor Glasoe has a passion for helping congregations discover their gifts!

The workshop will be held here at St. John’s on Saturday, November 14, from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other congregations from our synod will be invited to join us and discover their own strengths for their future. There will be time for large group sessions and individual congregation sessions, as well as lunch provided by the gifts and talents of our Social Ministry Team who will include us in their “meal ministry” to volunteers of our local Habitat for Humanity organization.

Please sign up and participate in this special event! We have funds available from our generous Jack Mertz Education Fund to pay for your participation. All you’ll need to do is sign up, arrive, participate in the workshop, and offer your thoughts and ideas to the conversation.

Your Church Council is committed to this event – and we would love voices of our entire congregation involved.

Sign up by calling Sue in the church office – 473-3770 – and be a voice for St. John’s continuing ministry into the future!

See you in church!

Pastor Pat 

“…Jesus came and said to (the disciples), ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.

And remember – I am with you always – to the end of the age.’”

Matthew 28:18-20

What is God’s Mission at St. John’s?

We are called to serve Jesus Christ our Lord:

  • By responding with love and compassion to human needs
  • Faithfully sharing the Gospel
  • Working for peace,
  • And growing in unity with all Christians

What do you have to offer?

Do you know how much goes on at St. John’s Sunday through Saturday? Goodness sake, we’re feeding people, teaching (and learning a LOT from) children, youth, and adults, studying God’s Word together, reaching out to our neighbors with blessing bags, handing out detergent and other household goods to folks who need them….we’re singing music to the Lord, bringing communion to those who can’t get out to church … we’re planning worship services and fellowship events and managing our financial gifts….we’re fixing broken doors, cameras, and cleaning up messes… we’re writing and preparing bulletins, newsletters, and classroom lessons…..

WHEW! I can’t even remember everything we do….and what I DO remember is exhausting!!! 

So…I invite you to think about how God has gifted you to serve here at St. John’s. We need you!

What are your hobbies and talents? Did something I mentioned spark your attention and grab at your heartstrings? Pray about that spark….and maybe you’ll find yourself responding with a need to offer yourself in a new way to God’s mission here at St. John’s.

The conversation is happening…and soon we hope to develop a survey that will help us all learn ways we have to serve the Lord – in old AND new ways…Stay tuned….and keep your “spark” conversation with the Lord fresh…and ready to offer, “Here I am! Send me!”

Hugs…..Pastor Pat 
