Dear Senator/Representative Name:

I am writing you because I am concerned that the current administration, along with its appointees to agencies such as the EPA and BLM, will further increase the effects of climate change because of its bias towards non-renewable, fossil fuel energy. Mr. Trump and his appointees seem to think that our health and the health of our planet should be second to making a profit by polluting the air, water, and land.

Mr. Trump was not elected to demolish our environmental laws, kill clean air and water protections or jeopardize action against climate change. Administrator Scott Pruitt, as America's new top environmental official, is responsible for protecting the health and safety of our families and our environment.

I urge you to demand that Mr. Trump and Mr. Pruitt protect the American people, not the big polluters, and not those who will make money while destroying the environment and Americans’ health. Please oppose any efforts to:

  • Slash the EPA's budget and staff, drastically undermining the agency's ability to defend our environment.
  • Dismantle the Clean Power Plan and other critical measures to save our climate and build a clean energy future.
  • Roll back vital clean car standards that would dramatically reduce carbon pollution from cars and trucks.
  • Allow the skyrocketing use of bee-killing pesticides to drive bee populations to the brink and threaten our health and food supply.
  • Weaken or eliminate fundamental protections for clean air, clean water and public health.
  • Open our parks, monuments and other public lands to drilling, fracking, and/or mining.

This administration needs to look beyond the short-sighted goal of making more money from fossil fuels. These fuels are non-sustainable and are also expensive. The decline of coal is an example of this. Despite Mr. Trump’s claims to the contrary, coal mining has not declined because of environmental regulations; instead, it is because it is an expensive fuel source that is not being used anymore. Money would be better used in research and development of renewable fuel sources instead of relying on fossil fuels.

It is also clear that Mr. Trump and his administration want to eliminate clean air and water protections in order to personally profit while destroying the planet, the environment, and Americans’ health.

I urge you to protect the American people who have elected you, not the lobbyists for the fossil fuel industry, and oppose any efforts by Mr. Trump and his administration that will further damage our planet.

Sincerely,

Your name and address
