Dear SCAPT Membership!

I am hoping that you were able to attend our 10th Annual SCAPT Conference this year as it was filled with wonderful opportunities to learn in our heads and hearts!

Dr. Eric Green’s presentation on working with children who have been traumatized using a Jungian perspective was very enlightening and was also filled with experiences that deepened our understanding of this work. In addition to Eric, KarenRiesel, Sandra Frick- Helms, and I engaged in breakout sessions that added some spice to the weekend’s learning.Participants earned 12 Continuing Education credits!

We also celebrated with gusto our tenth anniversary with past presidents and founders receiving certificates of honor. Sandra Frick Helms received the Professional Service Award for her work as the SCAPT Founding President. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the past SCAPT Presidents, Keren Reigel, Donna L. Rudd, and Larue Bettis. Melissa Bush, a past SCAPT Board member, was recognized as an outstanding Founding Member.

Last, but not least, we were fortunate in having artist Kore Loy McWhirter exhibit her artwork and sing with her partner, Bruce Green. Speaking for myself her presence and contribution was truly the icing on the cake of a delightful weekend!

Your board is already busy making preparations for a play therapy fall training seminar onSaturday, September 6, atthe GreenvilleTechnicalCollege Auditorium(attached) and the annual conference on March 9 and 10, 2009 where Nancy Davis will be presenting again, thanks to overwhelming interest from our members.

Our primary goals for the coming year include:

  • Providing our membership with quality training approved by APT, this year holdingtwo training opportunities andco-sponsoring workshops during other professional conferences or conventions;
  • Devoting energy toward developing our relationshipsto promote play therapy with the South Carolina Counseling Association, the South Carolina School Counselor Association, and our local colleges and universities who are training the counselors and therapists of tomorrow;

And

developing our website ()and communication with you, the membership, in service of listening closely to what you want!

With the warmest of regards and good will!
