Dear Principal or Guidance Counselor,

We would like to ask for your help with a very important project, Cinderella’s Closet. Cinderella’s Closet collects new and gently used formal wear and accessories and then provides them to girls all over Northern Kentucky free of charge. Going to prom can be an expensive endeavor and on a shopping trip a few months ago, it became apparent to me that by simply providing a dress, we could be making a dream come true.

This is the first year for Cinderella’s Closet. It’s an effort inspired by a teenager I met while shopping at a consignment store. I overheard her ask a clerk if the beautiful, gently-used gown on display could be put on hold while she figured out how to pay for it.

She asked her foster mother for the money, but a prom dress is an extra in life, and its price was out of their reach. Seeing her disappointment, I bought the dress for her. As tears flooded her eyes, she thanked me and said she would look “just like Cinderella.” For one day, a little girl was transformed into a princess.

I was transformed as well. Shortly thereafter, Cinderella’s Closet became a ministry of Immanuel Methodist Church. Our goal is to outfit 150 girls this year with dream dresses and accessories for their formal school events.

We need your schools help to make dreams come true. If you would please consider helping in the following two ways:

1)  By allowing a High School Dress Drive Day at your school. The event will be organized by one adult, and students at your school. The event would be promoted with flyers and announcements. Students would be asked to bring their gently used dresses to school to be collected by the organizing adult. We ask that the event be held by February 28, 2007.

2)  By referring girls at your school to be our Cinderella’s. Each “Cinderella” is referred to our organization by her school guidance counselor, principal, church pastor or social worker. You best know your students, and those that are in need, please help us locate our princesses. We understand that privacy is an issue that is why we ask for first names only. We will provide you with Magical Gift Certificates to hand out to each Cinderella. The certificate will explain the program and list an appointment (a 1-hour time frame) to come and pick out the dress of her dreams. Cinderella’s Closet will be open on March 17th and March 24th at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park. We will need the referrals by February 17, 2007 to allow enough time to contact the girls.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this project. Your help can make Cinderella’s Closet a success. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me with the information provided below. Thank you again.

Sincerely,
