My name is Kelsey Large and I am a senior Communication Sciences and Disorders student at the College of Wooster (Wooster, OH). I am currently completing a senior independent study thesis with faculty advisor Donald M. Goldberg, Ph.D. as a capstone for my undergraduate career. My study is researching parental perceptions of equine assisted activities and therapy’s impact on children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their listening and spoken language skills.
In order to conduct this study I have developed a survey for parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing and participate in horseback riding or any form of equine assisted activities/ therapies or hippotherapy. The survey will ask parents to provide information pertaining to their child’s hearing loss, communication skills, and any connections they may have seen between their child’s listening and spoken language communication skills and their experience with horses. All responses will be kept confidential and reported in aggregate form (grouped data). I am actively seeking parent participants to complete my survey. The College of Wooster’s Human Subjects Research Committee (HSRC) or “IRB” has approved this survey for distribution.
In order to spread the word about my survey, and gather data for my study, I have included the link below, as well as a “Recruitment Flyer” for your distribution. I am hoping that you can forward this message with the survey link to parents that you work with who have children that currently participate or participated in equine assisted activities/ therapy and utilize listening and spoken language.
