Dear Parents,December 2014 update
The PA would like to take this opportunity to update you on our recent activities and the contributions that you have been making in the run up to Christmas.
The Christmas Fair was so phenomenally successful as ever and it was wonderful to see the school so busy with lots of families and friends within our community. We counted a staggering £4264, with expenses to come off, and are completely blown away by the generosity and support shown by our parents. We would like to thank you for all the contributions received, from our hampers that were filled to the brim with wonderful prizes and all the lovely things made and donated for our Christmas stall to the amazing home baking treats that went down a storm. We would also like to thank all those that were able to help in the run up to the Fair, getting everything setup the night before and for those that were involved on the day manning stalls and clearing up afterwards. We would like to thank the children for being such great supporters of their school events and to the P7’s who rose to the challenge and made a fantastic job of adding to the fundraising pot with their Christmas entrepreneurial stall. We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Merrylee who, as always, support all that we do and give up their time to take part in our events.
The toys collection was also something that was completely unbelievable. We received an overwhelming response last week and are so happy to say that we passed on 3 large donations of toys, books, and clothing to 3 very deserving charities, just in time for Christmas. We focused on Project Present Govanhill, The Salvation Army and Glasgow The Caring City, and all expressed a huge gratitude of thanks for the amount of toys we were able to donate (in such excellent condition) to those desperately in need. We would like to thank you all so much for your generosity and kindness.
On the day of the Christmas Fair, we actually received a few donations that were just too late to be included. We put these items together and made a “hamper” jute bag, which we raffled off this week using the raffle tickets from the hamper draw at the Fair. We are pleased to announce that Dylan Hush P7 won this additional hamper and it is wonderful that all donations were able to be used to the benefit of the school.
We would like to say yet another thanks for all orders placed for Christmas cards and mugs, and also photographs. We hope that all items were well received and any glitches, the PA were able to sort out for you. The Christmas cards commission raised was another huge sum - £851, which has already been passed onto the school. The photographs commission should be with us shortly, and it too will be added to the fundraising funds to spend on resources.
For the New Year, we plan to kick start with the return of our Merrylee Fiver Challenge. For those that are new to the school or perhaps didn’t participate last time, you can borrow £5 from PA to invest in your own fundraising activity, with all funds raised being added back into PA fundraising pot. We like to encourage families to work together on this one, from bake sales to car washing, whatever fantastic ideas you can come up with. The school desperately needs a new piano to help enhance the already fantastic shows that are put on throughout the year, and to add to the quality of music lessons received on a day to day basis.
We also plan to have our now annual Family Night in February with lots of fun and games a foot. We will be sending more details on this, and our Fiver Challenge, once we come back after the holidays.
Thanks you all once again. Merry Christmas.
From the Merrylee Parents’ Association.
