Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Forest School programme will be starting the week beginning September 26th. Each Wednesday, a group of 15 children work on the school field and wooded area, accompanied by Ms Cooper as Forest School leader and two of our teaching assistants. The children have a total of 6 visits over the course of the year. We always let you know a week in advance when your child is going to Forest School. We will put group lists up outside the classrooms so that you know which group your child is in. We then write which group’s turn it is on the whiteboard outside the classroom in the case of RHC/RRT or in the classroom window in the case of RCW. If you aren’t sure when your child is going, please speak to a member of staff.

We already have waterproof dungarees and jackets for the children to wear. We also have thermal fleecy hats and socks and warm waterproof gloves to keep the children’s hands warm and dry while they are on the field and in the wooded area. We provide these outfits so that we know all children are appropriately dressed for working outdoors.

We thought it worth emphasising that we will be continuing to go to Forest School throughout the Winter months, so there are ways in which you can further help us as the weather gets colder. Please make sure that your child has suitable wellies or warm boots to wear, that will fit them when they are wearing several pairs of socks. Decathlon sports store in Stockport do some fantastic fleece lined wellies that are much better than ordinary wellies, if you need to buy some new ones. They are about £10 a pair. Send them to school in an extra pair of socks or tights on a Forest School day. Boys can wear tights too- lots of mountaineers do! Girls would be much better wearing trousers or leggings (with tights underneath) than skirts. Send them an extra jumper or fleece to wear on top of their uniform. We want the children to be warm, so wearing lots of layers is important. If you have any questions about the programme, please speak to a member of staff.

We are talking to the children at the moment about themselves and their families. We would be grateful if you could email us any photos of your child and their family to Please send a maximum of three photos.

We hope that you feel that your child is settling in happily. If you have any concerns, please speak to a member of staff.

Best Wishes,

The Reception Team
