Dear Parent/Guardian,

Greetings from Dixie Heights High School! I am Mrs. Jennifer Henry and it gives me great pleasure to introduce myself to you as your son’s/daughter’s English teacherfor this school year. As you will notice, I have a different method of teaching than what you may have encountered with previous teachers in the past.

Your child is a unique individual with varying likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I believe that it is essential to the success of your son/daughter for me to learn this vital information about your child, and to then assess him/her based on these distinctions. The accompanying tasks and questionnaire are ways for me to learn more about you and your child. I encourage you to collaborate with your son/daughter and work as partners on this assignment—perhaps you might learn more about your child, as well as yourself, in the process. Thank you for your time and cooperation; I look forward to working with you and forming a partnership in the future.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Henry

For Students To Do:

1. Please visit the following website: http://www.planetpsych.com/zInteractive/brain.htm

2. Download the “BrainWorks Quiz” (Note: this will take approximately 2-5 minutes.)

3. Follow the directions as specified on the website. Be sure not to analyze the questions too much; there are no incorrect answers.

3.  Go back over the questions and evaluate your child’s answers with him/her.

4.  Please collaborate with your child and answer the following questionnaire.

5.  If you would like to learn more about the importance of teaching with the learning styles in mind, find out resources that would help your child excel in school, or take another inventory quiz to compare results to the previous one taken, please go to this website: http://www.howtolearn.com/lsinventory_student.html
