Welcome Winter Wonders to Room 12!

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The month of December ushers in winter as well as many fun activities and holidays. Our units will involve studying how our toys move, as well as how we make economic choices during the holidays and every day. Reading units will be a continuation of Analyzing Characters with the elements of stories and how these may change with similar stories, such as the Gingerbread Man and Hansel and Gretal. We will also study those important sight words and patterns we see in words at home, while practicing reading stories we enjoy. Math will involve grouping number sets together to gain mental math skills, and collecting data. Along with the social studies units above, we will also work on our kindness and social skills as we highlight random acts of kindness. A highlight of the month will be participating in the Macy’s Believe Project for the Make-a-Wish Foundation! Students will get to experience how our acts can make a difference and help others at the same time. I also encourage you to participate in the PTA Food Drive as well as the Student Council’s Book Drive. A few important dates to note this month are:

·  December 9th – NasCarr 500 Holday Matchbox Car Race!

·  December 14th – Interims Home for the Second Quarter

·  December 19th – First Grade Holiday Class Exchange

·  December 20th – Make Gingerbread Houses

·  December 21st – Early Dismissal for Winter Holidays through January 1st!

Thank you for helping your child with their shoe tying skills last month. We are getting so much better! I also appreciate your donations this month as we ask for gingerbread house items, food for needy families and the book drive. Kindness is contagious we say and I hope that all of you have a wonderful holiday with family and friends.
