Dear WHS Families and Friends,

On Tuesday, February 27th, all students at Windsor High School will participate in a non-traditional educational experience. On that day, our Seniors will be required to complete either a job shadowing opportunity or a college visit. Juniors at Windsor High School will be taking a free ACT exam provided by the Windsor C-1 School District. Sophomores at WindsorHigh School will be taking a no-cost practice ACT exam on that day. And…our Freshman at Windsor High School will participate in service learning projects through Freshman 101 classes.

Seniors – By Friday, February 23rd, all Seniors will be required to sign up for a job shadowing experience, a college visit, or a community service opportunity. Seniors will also be required to provide documentation of their job shadowing, college visit, or community service when they return to school on Wednesday, February 28th.

Juniors – As you are aware, the ACT exam is the assessment most used to determine student eligibility for post-secondary education. This opportunity for all Juniors will help students and families make informed decisions about life after WHS, without the cost burden that normally accompanies this test. On Tuesday, February 27th, Juniors will take the ACT in the morning and then attend their regular classes in the afternoon, upon completion of the test.

Sophomores – On Tuesday, February 27th, all Sophomores will take the practice ACT (PACT). This design of this test mirrors as closely as possible the conditions students will experience when taking the official ACT exam. The purpose of the PACT is for students to:

  • Practice using test taking strategies that help students most accurately show what they know and are able to do
  • Understand test taking procedures, ranging from learning the test format and how to pace themselves, to ensuring they know logistics like what to bring and not bring on test day
  • Learn what areas on the ACT your child is on track to do well in, and which areas they may need to focus on between now and when they take the official exam.

Freshmen – In addition to the testing items above, our Freshmen students will work within their Freshman 101 groups to complete service learning projects around the Windsor community and engage in educational discussions that center around the value of these character driven efforts.

Once again, thank you for your continued support, and…GO OWLS!!!
