I am a member of the ClovisHigh Schoolvarsity wrestling team. We are annually one of the top programs not only in the state of California, but in the entire United States. Last year, we won our 3rd straight State Championship and were named the #1 public high school wrestling team in the nation. This year we begin the 2013-2014 season ranked #1 in Californiaand Top 5 in the country for high school wrestling.

In order to maintain this level of excellence and be considered amongst the nation’s best, this year we are competing in one of the toughest tournaments in the country in Alliance, Ohio on January 17-18, the Top Gun Wrestling Tournament. Some of the nation’s top teams will be competing at this prestigious event – St. Paris-Graham (OH), Massillon-Perry (OH), Claymont (OH), Fort Leboeuf (PA), Walsh Jesuit (OH), and Clovis (CA). Our goal is to contend for a national championship amongst the nation’s elite.

As a wrestler, I have an individual goal this season that I have been working toward since last March, the conclusion of the previous year. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, I have been completely focused on training 3-5 days per week in preparation for the opportunity to represent my school and the city of Clovis at the Top Gun this winter. By competing at the Top Gun and continuing my commitment to training, I hope to achieve my ultimate goal this season of being one of the top wrestlers in the state of California and winning a [state medal/state championship].

In order to have the opportunity to represent Clovis at this outstanding tournament, our team has fundraised extensively as a group. As individuals, we are responsible only to share the cost of our own plane ticket. Therefore, I am asking for monetary support from the Clovis community in order toraise the cost of the plane ticket and make this opportunity a reality for me.
