2015 Pioneer Classic Tournament Rules

All Games will be played under National Federation of State High School Associations and Ohio High School Athletic Association Rules.

Games will consist of three 15-minute periods. Should the score be tied at the end of regulation, there will be a 5 minute sudden death overtime period. If at the end of this period the score remains tied, there will then be a 5 man shootout with the visiting team shooting first. If tied at the end of the 5 man shootout, then a one-man sudden death shootout will occur, again with the visiting team shooting first. All players must be used once before any player may shoot again. Players in the penalty box at the end of the 5-minute overtime period will not be permitted to participate in the shootout. Ice cuts will be made after the second period only and prior to the start of each game. There will be no ice cut prior to overtime. Frequency of ice cuts may be adjusted to accommodate scheduling constraints.

FOR ALL DIVISIONS

Points will be rewarded as follows:

* 3 points for winning the game in regulation or in the 5 minute overtime period.

* 2 points for winning the game in a shootout.

* 1 point for a loss in a shootout or in the 5-minute overtime period

* 0 points for a loss in regulation.

At the conclusion of the preliminary rounds, the two teams with the most points will face each other in the championship game (for 1st and 2nd place). The teams with the 3rd and 4th highest points play in the consolation game (for 3rd and 4th place); likewise for 5th and 6th highest points for determining the remaining consolation game. Teams with the highest points (or as determined below) will be designated the home team for the final games.

If, after the preliminary rounds, two or more teams are tied in points, the following tiebreakers will determine the order of finish in the following sequence: 1- Head to head competition, 2 - Fewest penalty minutes. 3 -Flip of a coin.

Consolation games will follow the above overtime rules.

The championship game will follow the above overtime rules with one exception: If the score is tied after regulation, there will be a10-minute sudden death overtime. Shootout rules remain the same.

Penalties:

Any player, coach, manager or other team personnel who receives a game disqualification will be ejected from the tournament. Any player receiving a game misconduct penalty for any reason will be suspended for the following game as well.

Any –player receiving 5 penalties (major, minor, misconduct or any combination of these) in one game will sit out the following game.

Other Rules and Notes

Teams must complete the score sheet at least 25 minutes prior to each game. Teams need to be ready to play 15 minutes prior to the game. When necessary games may start up to 15 minutes early as determined by the

tournament director.

Use of ineligible players will disqualify team from remaining tournament play. All games played by the

disqualified team will be forfeited and tournament fees will not be refunded.

A maximum of 20 players, in which not more than 18 are skaters, shall be permitted to play in the game.

Length of games may be adjusted to accommodate scheduling constraints.

You must provide two responsible adults to act as off ice officials for each game - one for the penalty box and one

to assist the tournament scorekeeper if needed.

Five minute warm-up

The National Anthem is played before each Round 1 and Chamoionship game, please line your teams up on the blue lines after the warm-up.

Starting lineups are not announced.

Tag-up off-sides and no-touch icing

If a team is losing by 10 goals at the end of the second period of play or at any time during the third period, the

clock will go to running time. The losing team may elect to end the game in the third period if losing by 10 goals

and they feel that it is in the best interest of their team.

Games may be called if in the judgment of tournament officials, continuing play is deemed to be not in the best

interest of the tournament, participants, spectators, officials etc...

All games may be subject to curfew or changed to running time, regardless of the score, if one or both teams’ on ice actions create an unsportsmanlike game situation.

Any rulings needed to be made during the course of the tourney will be decided upon by the tourney directors and a group of selected coaches not involved in the outcome of the decision.

There will be a Sports Medicine trainer at all games.

Sunday matchups/game times may not be known until most or all games are completed on Saturday night. Teams

should plan to call their rink on Saturday evening to find out what time they play on Sunday. Game results and schedule updates will also be posted on Twitter @PioneerClassic.
