Dear Parent/Carers,

The children have enjoyed many topic related activities this week with a big focus on Science. Investigations have included “How far can a dinosaur smell?” in Y1/2 to a “Shark Blood Investigation” in Y5/6!

Weare looking forward to our whole school trip onJanuary 31st to Swansea Museum. Please return the consent form asapif you have not already done so.

The school was delighted to welcome teachers from all over Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot on Tuesday evening, to view our school and to find out how we organise our curriculum. We welcomed well over 100 teachers and TAs to the event and were astounded at the level of interest in our little school!

Please note the important message below regarding a change to pick up times on March 2nd.

Kind Regards

Mrs Jones

Safe Path

As you know we have had many incidents of near misses as pedestrians walk past our school on the busy road with no pavement. Site security has added to this problem as we have had to lock the top gate during the school day. However, we have some good news.

The council has secured the funding, within the highways department, to carry out works to create a safe path at the front of theschool. This will run inside the school's perimeter, and provide a safe path to the whole community 24 hours a day. The path will be separated from the children's yard by a fence in keeping with our existinggreen railings. This will enable visitors to the school, walkers etc to walk this stretch of road safely. The works will also include additional gates enabling us to secure the gate near the drop off zone during the school day. This project will give us all peace of mind, and become an integral part of our community's safety.

Thank you all for your vigilance in reporting all incidents. Together we have all helped in making this possible.

March 2nd - Changes to pick up times

We will be having a ministerial visit on March 2nd and will be welcoming many visitors to the school. As a result we kindly ask that you pick up your children a bit laterto relieve parking congestion around the school:

Nursery/Reception – 3.30pm

Y1/Y2 – 3.35pm

Y3 to Y6 – 3.40pm

If you have children in both key stages you may choose the later pick up time if you wish.

The bus has been arranged to pick up the children 15minutes later than normal, so please adjust the time you usually pick your children from their bus stops.

Museum Day

We will be visiting Swansea Museum and Swansea Waterfront Museum on Wednesday 31st January. We have organised some fantastic topic related workshops for the children as follows:

Foundation Phase – Dinosaurs, fossils and pirates

Y3/4 – Celts and Romans

Y6- WW2

Please note that Nursery pick up time will be 3.10pm as normal and not 2.145pm as stated on consent orm.

Second Hand Book Fayre March 9th

Please send in any unwanted children’s books that you may have. Children will be able to visit the fayre and choose books. All books will be 50p or £1.

Superstars

Calling all you budding actors and actresses out there! “Superstars” will be running a new drama club at 3.30pm each Friday commencing 12th January at a cost of £3 per week. This will be for children from Y1 to Y6. If you would like your child to attend, please contact Jayne in the office. We will be collecting money in advance on a half termly basis, so if you would like your child to attend the first payment will be £18 (cheques payable to Llanrhidian Primary School.)

Our Attendance Race!

Attendance has started improving again after our post Christmas dip. Our whole school attendance has crept up to 96.3% although we are still below our target of 96.85%! A big well done to Y1/2 who have had a super week.
