Cheese Rolling At Coopers Hill In Gloucestershire

This You Tube Video is about 3 minutes long and shows these crazy people dangerously falling down the hill after the cheese. Hilarious!

Every year people from all over England travel from afar to attend the Cheese Rolling Race on Coopers Hill. The traditional race has been in existence for hundreds of years and is believed to have evolved from festivals meant to bless the land with fertility for a successful harvest. A cheese is thrown from the top of the hill and participants race down to be the first to grab it at the bottom.

The Cheese Rolling race is a dangerous event, as Coopers Hill is incredibly steep. There are 5 downhill races and 4 uphill races, with each competitor rolling a wheel of real cheese. During the event a quite a number of people have difficulty navigating the hill, resulting in several serious injuries each year.

Records show that the Cheese Rolling event has only been canceled a handful of times, mainly because of difficulty scheduling ambulance support during the event. Even during difficult economic times where food rationing was prevalent the race was still held – instead using wooden cheese wheels as a substitute!

You Tube Video 3 ½ MINUTES OF SQUISHY FUN !

La Tomatina

La Tomatina is childish fun for adults! It’s a food fight using... you guessed it... tomatoes and is held for one day on the last Wednesday in August. Every year the population in the tiny town of Buñol (in the Valencia region of Spain) grows from 9,000 to over 30,000 as tourists pour in to enjoy the fun. It has been estimated that more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets on this day and I wouldn't want the job of cleaning it all up!

It all starts at noon as the church bells ring and the distant rumble of trucks loaded full of tomatoes makes its way into a crowd of thousands. Helpers get onto the trucks and start throwing tomatoes into the crowd then a massive food fight begins. Now you may wonder why people travel thousands of miles to take part, but think about this for a minute. A chance to throw food at people without getting into trouble and without having to clear the mess up afterwards... I'm in!
