An Opportunity Culture at Hawk Ridge

We have AMAZING Educators here at Hawk Ridge!! Educators who work to individualize for students, that are early adopters of aggressive initiatives and that are respected around CMS. Over the last two years I have been advocating for Hawk Ridge to be able to participate in work done by a group out of Chapel Hill, NC called Public Impact. The basic focus for this group is 1.) to look at structures to expand the REACH of the most gifted teachers in specific areas to more students than the normal 24 (K-3) or 29 (3-5) they interact with during the year (through flexible models) and 2.) to create a leadership pipeline for these gifted teachers to assume greater leadership responsibility and additional pay to encourage them to stay a teacher directly impacting students. This will help teachers not feel as though they have to take on Administration Roles or leave for a higher paying job to grow professionally or support their family. Through advocacy, CMS has admitted Hawk Ridge into this program. Currently there are approximately 23 CMS schools participating. As I complete the hiring/placement process I will update our community on the number of REACH (Additional Pay & Additional Responsibility) positions we were able to offer for the 2015-2016 school year. This is a great opportunity for our AMAZING Staff!!

Parent Input on Placement for Next Year

It is that time of year again! I invite all parents to send me an email with thoughts on the characteristics of a teacher you think would be a good match for your child. You are welcome to email Sharon D’Aries at with these comments. We take student placement very seriously at Hawk Ridge. Included in our process is an effort to have diversely balanced and heterogeneously grouped (cluster groups(6 or 7) of students at similar levels) classrooms. We will also be looking at Literacy Data and Math Pathway performance. Comments from parents on characteristics of a teacher help us in truly seeking the right fit. Please do this by Monday, June 1st. Please do not include teacher names or physical features as characteristics. Mrs. D’Aries will send a short generic reply indicating that your input has been received and placed in the placement file. Thank you.

Join us for many performances and the exhibit of 3D Recycled Art this Thursday evening. Superintendent Ann Clark will be on campus in the afternoon as one of our judges for the art projects. The event runs from 5:00-8:00. Please stop by!!
