Dear Faculty and Students,

Please read this notification in its entirety as it contains pertinent information for both Students and Faculty regarding Student Poster Day.

This message serves as the official notification that the 24th Annual Student Poster Day will take place on Friday, April 24th from 9:00am-1:30pm at the Cancer Research Center, East Campus.

Abstract submission is now open. Abstracts should be completed using the Abstract Submission Form found at http://www.albany.edu/sph/studentposterday.php . Completed abstract should be sent via email as an attachment to . Abstracts should not exceed 250 words.

The template includes fillable fields that are pre-formatted; therefore, students simply need to input the required information or select from a drop down menu, as indicated. Students wishing to have their abstract submitted to the Delta Omega Honorary Society Abstract Competition must check the applicable box on the abstract submission form.

Resources such as guidelines for writing abstracts, Delta Omega Abstract Competition criteria, a sample abstract, and recommendations for creating posters can also be found on the SPD website. Posters for Student Poster Day should have maximum dimensions of 34” in height by 40”in width.

Abstracts must be received no later than Monday, April 6th, 2014 by 5:00pm. Abstracts will NOT be accepted after the April 6th deadline!

The following information is very important:

  • It is the responsibility of each individual department to determine who is required to submit an abstract and present a poster at Student Poster Day.
  • All 2nd year MPH Students planning to graduate in May must submit an abstract and present a poster at Student Poster Day to satisfy their internship requirement. Questions regarding the fulfillment of the internship requirements, such as whether a poster needs to be presented, should be directed to Katrina Chamberlain at . All other questions, such as abstract submission or poster printing, should be directed to .
  • Dr. Mary Gallant will be providing a session to review posters during the Capstone class, SPH 685 on Friday, March 6th 9:00-10:50 AM at the School of Public Health George Education Building, Room C4 on East Campus
  • This session is open to all students presenting a poster. Students who are not currently enrolled in SPH 685 but intend to attend this session should RSVP to by March 2nd.
  • Students should frequently check the SPD webpage and Student Events Listserv for updates regarding SPD and poster printing.
  • MPH Faculty advisors who have a student advisee presenting at Poster Day are required to attend and complete a written evaluation form (attached here and also supplied at the event) of the student’s poster and presentation of the experience.
  • Project and research mentors are also strongly encouraged to attend as it provides students with the opportunity to present to public health practitioners in addition to faculty and peers.
