General Rules

1.  Be respectful to everyone and OMS property. Keep the classroom clean.

2.  Respect your teacher, fellow classmates, and yourself.

3.  No cheating or plagiarizing. Any or all persons involved in cheating will receive a zero for the assignment and detention or ISS. This includes all classwork, homework, quizzes, projects, and tests.

4.  Follow all the policies and procedures as stated in the student handbook.

5.  Observe all safety rules and instructions when participating in an activity or laboratory exercise.

Consequences

1.  Verbal Warning

2.  Writing Assignments / Detention

3.  In-School Suspension

4.  Dismissal from any or all labs. Students will receive a zero grade for the lab in question and ISS.

5.  Parent / Teacher / Principal / Student Conference

General Information

1.  Students have two emergency restroom passes per quarter. If you use more than two and need to leave the room, (excluding real passes to the nurse), you will be given a writing assignment. Those who do not use their passes will receive five bonus points for every pass not used at the end of the quarter.

2.  Make-up assignments must be completed and returned within 3 days after an absence. For multiple absences, please discuss the makeup schedule with the teacher. Ask a friend about missed assignments, notes, turned in papers, etc. from the previous class or check the assignment board.

3.  In the instance of a missed test, if advanced notice has been given and all material has been covered, the student is required to take the test the same day upon returning to school. This includes only missing a “review” day. Failure to take a make-up test on time will result in a zero. Students have an Enrichment period to complete makeup work.

4.  Lab note: Students will not be allowed to enter the lab without reading and signing the student safety contract and passing the safety exam. Students that have certain medical conditions (i.e. certain allergies, pregnancy) should not participate in certain lab activities. Students that are absent may be given a separate assignment from other students in order to make up for missed participation in a laboratory experiment. Check with the teacher for specific instructions.

5.  Do not ask to leave the classroom to get items (or assignments) from your locker or use the office phone.

Grading Policies

1. All tests, quizzes, homework, classwork, labs, and projects will be assigned a point value. The student’s grade will be calculated using the following percentages:

8th Grade Science Courses:

Tests and Quizzes - 60% Projects, Labs, Homework/Class work – 30% Quarter Tests– 10%

2. Quizzes will either be announced or unannounced for a grade. Chapter tests and project assignments will be given with plenty of notice. *Some projects may require out of school time and materials.

3. Students are responsible for keeping records of their assignments; i.e. savings their work in their Google Drive. It must be kept current and organized.

4. Effort and participation are required. I cannot answer questions that do not get asked.
