On March 29, 2014, The Van Metre Companies will once again host the Annual Van Metre 5 Mile Run for Children’s National Health System ( formerly Children’s National Medical Center) at the Broadlands Marketplace. I am sending this letter to you now in case you are considering making a charitable contribution in 2014 and in case you may need to budget for that contribution this year.

This year’s event will be our 22nd Annual and thanks to your generosity and support over the years, we have raised over $2,600,000 for Children’s National Health System with our 5 Mile Run event. As over the past twenty one years, every dollar we raise with this event goes directly to Children’s as the Van Metre Companies underwrites all race expenses.

This year,The Van Metre Companies have decided to establish and support an endowment fund for Children’s National Health System. This endowment requires donations of $2,000,000 to be fully endowed and $1,000,000 to be inaugurated. Once we have received the first $100,000 Children’s will start using the earnings on the funds received. We are extremely pleased to be able to take on this challenge since the funding of this endowment will allow Dr. Charles Berul, Co-Director of the Children’s National Heart Institute and Chief of the Division of Cardiology, to continue his trailblazing investigations in neonatal and fetal pacing and defibrillation along with other innovative research projects that promise to advance care for children. One in 200 children has a heart rhythm abnormality so Dr. Berul’s work will improve the care given to kids that need pacing or defibrillation. So far, we have committed funds of $565,000 towards our $2,000,000. Please join in for this very worthwhile cause.

We plan to use our race proceeds from the 22nd Annual Van Metre 5 Mile Run towards this endowment. Please note that your contribution is tax deductible.
