Dear Colleagues s17

September 11, 2009

Dear colleagues,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the newest incarnation of the Norene Hokett Invitational, to be held at Riverside City College on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009. The tournament will feature three rounds of IEs for novice and two rounds breaking to finals for open division. This tournament will be absolutely free. Yes, free. There will be no entry fees, and no trophies at the end of the tournament. What will you get for your free?

  • A limited amount of snacks to preserve wellness.
  • A tournament that starts at 10am, allowing schools at more of a distance to leave significantly after dawn.
  • Snazzy but cheap certificates for all of our winners.

Obviously, we must pay our hired judges (otherwise we couldn't call them hired), which means there will be a $10 per uncovered slot fee.

Please feel free to take advantage of other Inland-Empire events of the weekend. On Friday, October 2nd the annual (almost) SoCal-LD.net debate workshop will take place at California Baptist University. This is a great opportunity to get free (there's that word again) training and evidence in NFA L/D. That workshop will be from noon until dinner time at CBU, which is just a couple of exits on the freeway from Riverside City College. Find more information on that workshop at www.SoCal-LD.net.

Also, be sure to come back on Sunday, October 4th for RCC's much higher class LD tournament with 6 rounds, trophies, etc. The opening assembly for that tournament is at 9:30am so it should be possible for many schools to attend both tournaments without the use of a hotel.

Please contact me with any questions and concerns at or call me at (951) 343-4207.

Thanks,

Michael Marse

Asst. Professor of Communication Studies

California Baptist University
