Dear Colleagues,
By now you have received a communication about the potential work stoppage, giving some information for you as it pertains to your employee group. I hope that you have found this useful. If you have any questions at all, just let us know. You can send your questions to . While I am still hopeful that a settlement will be reached, we do have to ensure contingency plans are in place.
Many of you have not been through a work stoppage before. Some of you have experienced work stoppages at Algonquin – the last Academic Staff work stoppage was in 2006 and the last Support Staff work stoppage occurred in 2011.
This experience, should it happen, will be different than in the past at Algonquin. We are following a set of guiding principles, posted on the Work Stoppage web site (

These are the principles that the Algonquin College Leadership Team has committed to uphold during a work stoppage:
Everything we do as a Leadership Team — before, during and after a work stoppage — will reflect the College’s values of Caring, Learning, Integrity and Respect.
Everything we do as a Leadership Team — before, during and after a work stoppage — will be done to ensure student success and, specifically, the completion of the term.
Everything we do as a Leadership Team — before, during and after a work stoppage — will be done with the overriding purpose of ensuring a harmonious workplace upon resolution of the work stoppage and the return of affected employees.
Things that will be different in the event of a work stoppage:
• Our picketing employees are welcome to park as they normally would at all three campuses.
• Designated areas at all three campuses will be available for use of washrooms and shelter. All are welcome to grab a hot beverage at our concessions
• Blackboard, Canvas and email are all open and available. It is important to note that there is no expectation for employees who are on strike to do work.
• Affected part-time professors will continue to be paid for week one of the stoppage. This decision will be reviewed on a weekly basis.
This is what I know today. I promise to send communications as I know more.

Sincerely,
Cheryl
