Inspiring future talent in Luton

An exciting new partnership has been formed to support more young people in Luton aged 16-24 to find Apprenticeships by matching them with Luton employers looking to find their future workforce.

Develop have joined forces with John Laing Training (JLT) to provide intensive support to young people wanting to find employment as an apprentice.

Launched in June, the partnership has already seen 2 young people matched into local Luton Apprenticeships and a further 5 new Apprenticeship job opportunities created.

Anthony Clarke, Business Development Manager says “JLT are excited about the growing partnership with Develop. We have several supportive employers, offering great starting salaries, waiting to find their perfect Apprentice. By partnering with Develop we believe that together we can match great young people with great employers”

Develop successfully work with young people in a range of different training opportunities across Luton to inspire and motivate them in deciding which career they may wish to follow. They develop skills in specific areas such as childcare through to administration and sales, as well as supporting them to develop their employability skills.

At the end of their programme, the learners are invited to an intensive 1 day assessment centre with JLT held at the recently opened TOKKO centre, Luton’s recently opened, brand new, world-class youth facility based on Gordon Street in the town centre. At the assessment centre, candidates looking for work are put through their paces by a team of experts who support them to refine their employability skills through a series of interactive and engaging tasks and activities. Those candidates that show that they have met the employability standard are then put forward to be matched with local employers who are seeking apprentices.

Mark Pike, Regional Director of Develop says “We are delighted at how successfully this partnership is growing. It is so important that we are able to find local jobs for local young people, but not just any job. The range of Apprenticeships that we are developing enable the learners to take the first step on the career ladder, gain valuable experience and qualifications whilst developing their personal and social skills”
