Dear ASU Prep Families:
We are happy that you chose to be part of the ASU Prep family and would like to assure you that we are going to have a very successful school year, focused on the academic program you have come to expect.
The leadership team at ASU Prep very much wants to keep you informed about all the developments having to do with Phoenix Elementary School District’s (PESD) decision to terminate the lease for the ASU Prep Phoenix Campus.
The central issue is PESD’s request for a $2.7 million annual lease; an 800% increase from what ASU Prep currently pays. As a non-profit, Title I school, a multi-million dollar lease is way above what ASU Prep can reasonably afford. ASU Prep has offered numerous proposals to come to terms on an arrangement that works for both parties. However, those proposals have all been rejected by PESD.
Last Wednesday, we held two informational meetings for students, parents and families. These morning and evening meetings were both well-attended, with several hundred parents taking the time to attend on a weekday. Thank you to everyone who attended and to those of you who offered suggestions and asked questions to clarify this unfortunate situation.
ASU leadership will meet with Governing Board representatives this Wednesday at their request and the Governing Board will convene a public meeting this Thursday, August 9 at 6 pm where an update on the ASU Prep Lease Negotiation is on the agenda.
ASU Prep stands committed to doing everything possible to keep the Phoenix campus open in the downtown location where we have thrived since 2009. We will continue to advocate for a successful solution here, one that has no negative impacts for the 1,200 ASU Prep students and families who depend on this school for their education and to help shape their future.

Nos da mucho gusto saber que ustedes escogieron ser parte de la familia ASU Prep y queremos asegurarles que tendremos un año escolar exitoso, enfocándonos en los programas académicos que ustedes esperan de nosotros. El equipo de liderazgo de ASU Prep desea mantenerlos informados acerca de lo que se ha venido desarrollando con la decisión del Distrito Escolar Phoenix Elementary (PESD) de terminar el contrato de renta con el plantel de ASU Prep Phoenix.
El tema central es la petición de PESD de un contrato anual con valor de 2.7 millones de dólares; un aumento del 800% de lo que ASU Prep paga actualmente. Como institución no lucrativa y escuela Título I, un contrato de renta multimillonario está muy por encima de lo que ASU Prep puede solventar de manera razonable. ASU Prep ha ofrecido varias propuestas para llegar a un acuerdo que sea de beneficio para ambas partes. Sin embargo, dichas ofertas han sido rechazadas por el distrito PESD.
El pasado miércoles, llevamos a cabo dos foros informativos para los alumnos y los padres de familia. Asistió mucha gente a dichas reuniones, con varios cientos de padres que se tomaron el tiempo para asistir entre semana. Gracias a todos los que nos acompañaron y a aquellos que ofrecieron sus sugerencias e hicieron preguntas para aclarar esta desafortunada situación.
El equipo de liderazgo de ASU se reunirán con los representantes de la Mesa Directiva a petición de la misma este miércoles, y la Mesa Directiva convocará a una reunión pública este jueves, 9 de agosto, a las 6 de la tarde. La agenda incluye un informe acerca de la Negociación de Contrato con ASU Prep.
En ASU Prep mantenemos nuestro compromiso de hacer todo lo posible para mantener el plantel de Phoenix abierto en la ubicación del centro de la ciudad desde donde hemos prosperado desde 2009. Continuaremos abogando por una solución que no tenga ningún impacto negativo para los 1,200 alumnos de ASU Prep y sus familias que dependen de esta escuela para recibir su educación y ayudar a formar su futuro.
Nuestros directores de plantel continuarán con su compromiso de dictar una experiencia de instrucción de la más alta calidad, dentro de un ambiente de cuidado y cariño para sus hijos.
