Enclosed are websites that can help you implement and utilize in the classroom. I attended a Leadership Conference this past week and attended a session called “Resources for the Common Core”.
NEA Common Core Tool Kit
This toolkit is intended to be a fully dynamic resource of information on Common Core State Standards and contains six critical areas for understanding and preparing for implementation of the Common Core State Standards:
- Common Core State Standards Overview;
- Curriculum and Instruction;
- Professional Development;
- Assessment and Reflection;
- English Language Learners; and,
- Students with Disabilities.
This site also has other websites for teachers to use to help implement the common core in their classroom as well as their building and district.

Achieve the Core
Achieve the Core was founded by David Coleman, Susan Pimentel and Jason Zimba. They are a non-profit organization with one purpose: to help all students and teachers see their hard work lead to greater student achievement.
There are samples of: lesson plans, student-writing samples, Assessments, Curriculum Tools, Supporting All Students and Professional Development. They have downloadable materials as well as videos to utilize to use for professional development purposes.
Common Core State Standards Initiative – Preparing America’s Students for College and Career
The information is intended to help guide individuals seeking to use or otherwise represent the brand of the Common Core State Standards or Common Core State Standards Initiative.
This site is the official home of the Common Core State Standards. It is hosted and maintained by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center). It provides parents, educators, policymakers, journalists, and others easy access to the actual standards, as well as supporting information and resources.
This site has the standards, what is happening in each state, What parents should know, Videos, Teacher Resources.
Better Lessons
Better Lesson wasfounded by a group of teachers from Atlanta and Boston public schools to help educators create, organize, and share their curricula. This site has lessons, videos and materials by master teachers in their field. The site has easy to navigate by subject and grade level. Master Teacher-created content feeds the BetterLesson PD product that, in turn, supports teachers across the country who want to drive their own professional learning. You will be helping thousands of teachers!
Engage New York
EngageNY.org is developed and maintained by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to support the implementation of key aspects of the New York State Board of Regents Reform Agenda. This is the official web site for current materials and resources related to the Regents Reform Agenda. The agenda includes the implementation of the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS), Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE), and Data-Driven Instruction (DDI). EngageNY.org is dedicated to providing educators across New York State with real-time, professional learning tools and resources to support educators in reaching the State’s vision for a collegeand careerready education for all students.
What to find on the site:
- Common Core Standards, curriculum and instructional resources, bilingual resources, performance tasks and assessment guidelines and materials developed by NYSED and our partners

Great Public Schools Network -- NEA GPS Network
The Great Public Schools Network is a place where teachers, parents, school support professionals, and community members share ideas and resources to improve student success. It is free and open to all!
This site has over 2, 290 resources and 146 groups to join. There are opportunities for educators to share lesson plans, resources, discussion groups, and online professional development. This site is open to ALLteachers, administrators, parents and business community.
The site also has focused groups on Common Core by grade level and subject area.
