AGENDA ITEMS

1.  Academic Open House – James Parker, guest

How to better sell BSU as a small, personalized campus; next week, host 300 students. James would like faculty volunteers so students can meet with faculty one on one for 15 minutes. Follow through to personalized advising sessions at AAR session. More, smaller sessions. 100 students per session. James is asking for Dean’s input on faculty participants.

2.  SEMP Task – capacity updates due next week – carry over item – Martin

Meets every Tuesday, would like to get this info to the task force soon.

3.  Oversight of curriculum process – Martin

Has been brought to faculty Senate, will be working on improving the process so programs have all required signatures, even across colleges. Curriculum committee is currently searching for a chair.

4.  Update Academic Affairs groups – Martin

list of group memberships; Martin asked for review and let him know if anyone is missing.

5.  Program assessment – Patrick

Reminder to continue to work with departments to submit needed materials to stay current. If departments need assistance, let Patrick know. Randy and Dave are also available to help as assessment coordinators.

6.  Equipment allocations – Patrick Attachment 1

Provided FTE base allocation dollar amounts based on 12-13 numbers. Money provided to deans to allocation as appropriate. Interest in seeing actual expenditures by program over past few years; some programs do have need for more dollars, based on more than just FTE. Should

7.  Load Reports for Fall – Patrick

Doug will be working on load reports with Patrick. Will include reassigned time and may look a little different than in previous year.

8.  Adjunct pay & assessment – Patrick

Discussion about adjunct faculty and course level (vs. program level) assessment; more work for adjunct faculty with larger courses. Is this part of their course compensation? Need a response at next meet and confer. Deans do have the ability to negotiate a higher per credit rate for adjunct faculty up front.

9.  Who is the convener of the Professional Improvement Grant Committee? – Patrick

Jeanine; will work with the faculty committee.

10. Other

Space: discussion of scheduling evening courses; would this change our space utilization rate? Use of specialized space (labs, field house) – better use? Online growth has also led to decrease in scheduled classrooms. Centralized scheduling – would this help? What counts in terms of scheduling – does tutoring, prep time work if it’s schedule, and how does it need to be in the schedule to count?

Perception that we are pushing for growth in online courses and programs: Based on 80/20 funding model, FasTrack secondary initiative? Also a historical perception at the University and growth of online courses in the summer. Could we do a brown bag session on this to discuss the reality vs perception? Or a session on options for hybrid course configurations?
