DEAKIN LAW SCHOOL RESEARCH REPORT (No 10 of 2015)

1 Recent Publications

Since the last report a large number of publications have been reported. The rate and quality of the publications is exceptional (perhaps unprecedented in the Law School). The research ethos of the school is at a very high level and for this I congratulate staff as a whole. Especially notable below are the two publications from the same staff member – Cindy Davids. The recent publications are as follows:

  • Samantha Hepburn, ‘Statutory Construction and Native Title Extinguishment: Expanding Constructional Choices’ (2015) 38(2) University of New South Wales Law Journal 586-616
  • Pieter Badenhorst, New real rights to land in South Africa: A twofold test’ (2015) 4 Aus Property Law Review 197-206.
  • Dr Luca Siliquini-Cinelli and Dr Béatrice Schütte, Conceptualizing the Schmittian Exception in the European Union: From the ‘Opt-Out’ Procedure(S) to Indirect Forms of Secessionism, 15 Chi.-Kent J. Int’l & Comp. L. 1 (2015).
  • Cindy Davids and Boyce G, ‘Integrity, accountability, and public trust: Issues raised by the unauthorised use of confidential police information’, in Lister S and Rowe M (eds) Accountability of Policing, Abingdon: Routledge.
  • Cindy Davids, ‘Combating Bribery of Foreign Officials: A Counter Corruption Strategy in Developed Countries’, in Zhang Y and Lavena C (eds) Government Anti‐Corruption Strategies: A Cross‐Cultural Perspective, CRC Press (Taylor and Francis), pp.217–248.
  • Mui Kim Teh, ‘Principals and Legal Risk: Contrasting Perspectives’, International Journal of Law and Education (2014) 19(1), 55-71.

2 Research Funding

Since the last research report, the SMT has approved one grant application: Marlene Ebejer to attend the 6th Annual Family Law conference in Bali. It is a practitioner and academic conference and Marlene will use it as an opportunity to expand places in the Legal Internship program. The amount awarded was granted $3,036.
