DCS’s affirmative action plan should be declared invalid – Solidarity

Trade union Solidarity this week requested the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg to declare the affirmative action plan of the Department for Correctional Services (DCS) invalid. The trade union believes that this plan contravenes the provisions of the Employment Equity Act and that it amounts to unfair discrimination.

Solidarity told the court that the current affirmative action plan of the DCS was invalid because of its inflexibility and because only the national racial demographics is used as criterion.

Corruption crisis in SA bigger than Nkandla

Corruption in South Africa has reached crisis proportions and stretches far beyond the notorious Nkandla debacle. This is according to a new report released by the trade union Solidarity in September. Inge Strydom reports. The report details nine other corruption scandals over the past few years that have cost the taxpayer much more than the R246 million spent on the president’s Nkandla home.
