7th Grade College Project

The multimedia project will incorporate MS Excel, Internet research, and Google Slides, and possibly Pixlr (online software), and photo editing. The scope and sequence are as follows:

Days 1-2: Project Overview and Sample (December 1 & 4)

Teachers will explain the scope and sequence of the College Project. Create two sample charts off Your Education Pays. Create a title slide and one slide for each chart created.

Day 3: Research Topics for Charts Start Chart Creation (December 5)

Each group membermust choose from one of the following topics and create a chart using a spreadsheet. Charts must have titles and appropriate labels. Topics may only be chosen once.

Tuition (resident: graduate and undergraduate, nonresident: graduate and undergraduate) (Column Chart, 4 columns)

Room and Board (1 column) vs. Undergraduate Tuition (2 columns) (resident/nonresident) (Column Chart, 3 columns)

Enrollment (male: graduate and undergraduate, female: graduate and undergraduate) (Bar Chart or Pie Chart with Percentages)

Current Diversity Enrollment by Ethnicity/Minority (Pie)

Top 5 Undergraduate Majors (major and number of students enrolled) (Bar or Column Chart)

Previous Enrollment over time (for last 3 or 5 recording periods)For example: 2014-10,957, 2013-10,112, 2012-9,878, etc. (Line Chart)

List the number of dorms, cafeterias, libraries, theatres on campus. Look at a map of the campus and count them.

Days4-5: Chart Creation/Combine into Presentation (December 6-7)

Create a Presentation that contains a title slide and one slide for each chart created by each group member. Title slide must contain the following and be in the school’s colors:

College Name, Logo, and Mascot (nickname)

Group member names

Find a commercial from YouTube about your school. One minute maximum length.

At the bottom of your chart you must hyperlink the URL from which you gathered your data on every slide of your presentation!

Days 6-7: Finish Presentation/Present College Project (December 8, 11)

Each group will present the information in their presentation to their class. Each individual student will be responsible for presenting the information regarding the chart they created.

**All slides must have titles specific to information in the chart andhave transitions. Remember this project is to inform your classmates about different colleges. You are only limited by time. So be creative and have fun with this project.
