Application information- please read through the entire document before completing

General Information

  • In order to apply, you must be a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant
  • Student may apply for as many of awards as that they meet the eligibility requirements. However in order to benefit the maximum possible number of students you can only win one
  • To receive the award, recipients must meet all of the requirements to receive their DEC which includes passing all of their courses, the English exit exam and the comprehensive examination by May 31, 2014. Should you not meet the requirements of your DEC the offer of the award will be rescindedand you will not receive the award.
  • The deadline to apply is March 21, 2014 at 4:00pm in room 2E.15
  • Late applications will not be accepted

RequiredDocuments

  • All documents (letters of intent, resume/cv, references and application form) must be submitted at the same time.
  • Each student is required to submit a typed letter of intent 1-2 pages max.for each award that they are applying to. For example, if you are applying to two awards; the Anastasia De Sousa Award and the Harry Wagschal Award; two letters of intent are required.
  • Most awards have additional questions to answer. The questions are listed on page 2 and 3. Please include them in your letter of intent.
  • The application package requires only two reference letters. These letters must be from individuals, other that relatives and friends, who are able to judge your academic achievement, your contributions to your school and community and the likelihood of your success
  • Please include an updated resume/cv. This document must highlight your employment, volunteer, leadershipand extra-curricular activities
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted

Interviews

  • Applicants may be invited to a 15-20 minute interview with a committee
  • Interviews will be taking place at the beginning of April. The awards office will try it’s best to work around your class schedule but due to the availability of interviewers and the rooms, interviews cannot be re-scheduled

Receiving your award

  • Recipients of the Anastasia De Sousa Scholarship and The Catherine Ward Scholarship are required to attend the Convocation ceremony on June 17th, 2014 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Other recipients are encouraged to attend
  • Award cheques will be dispersed at the beginning of the fall 2014 semester. Recipients of the Scholarship for the Study of the Arts and Humanities, the Study of Business, the Study of Engineering or Computer Science, for Study at a French-language University , for the Study of Science, The Scholarship for Study in the Social Sciences, The William McCallum Memorial Scholarship The Business and Professional Women's Club of Montreal Scholarship, The Catherine Ward Scholarship, The Fraser Kyle Award are required to send a copy of their fall 2014 schedule to the Awards office in order to receive their award cheque
  • Awardcheques will be sent in the mail. Please notify the Awards office should you move
  • Your Social Insurance Number (SIN) is required for Dawson College to process your award
  • An award is considered income by the provincial and federal governments so you must declare the funds at tax time. Dawson College will provide you with the necessary forms \ at the beginning of the next calendar year

one award of $1500 / This award commemorates the intelligence, drive and determination of Anastasia De Sousa, who was killed during the shooting tragedy at Dawson College on September 13, 2006 / This scholarship is awarded to a student who has overcome one or more major obstacles on the road to academic success at Dawson College
To be eligible for this prize, you must be studying at the CEGEP level for the first time, be a full-time student in your program and have an overall average of at least 70% in every semester you have been at Dawson / What kind of obstacles have you overcome to get this far in your education? (You may go back to examples from high school and even primary school if you like). / The recipient is required to attend the Convocation ceremony which will be taking place on June 17th, 2014 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.
□ / The Business and Professional Women's Club of Montreal Scholarship
one award of $1000 / The goal of this scholarship is to encourage and enable students, whose minority status has put them at a social and educational disadvantage to continue their studies / This award is offered to a female student, from either regular or continuing education, to attend Concordia University on a full or part time. The basis of the award is financial need and potential for academic success / Must be a visible minority female

one award of $3000 / Awarded to a graduating member of the Dawson College Women’s Hockey team entering a Canadian University while pursuing their sport / Given to a student or students who show a high probability of academic and athletic success / Seeing that the one of major criteria of the scholarship is your continued participation in the sport of hockey, what are your goals in continuing to play hockey and how do think that hockey can contribute to your overall objectives? / The recipientisrequired to attend the Convocation ceremony which will be taking place on June 17th, 2014 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.
Proof of being accepted on the university hockey team is required
□ / The Fraser Kyle Award
one award of $1000 / The Fraser Kyle Award is awarded to student entering a Bachelor of Arts program in English Literature. The scholarship is given in the name of Fraser Kyle, a Gallagher Award winner and exceptional student, who wanted to help others study what he loved / The basis for selecting winners is academic and contribution to the academic environment of the College. This contribution can take many forms. It may include participation in student government, peer tutoring, or involvement in College clubs or other activities. / What are your particular interests in the field? What are your particular strengths in the area you have chosen to study? What are your career goals? / The personal and academic growth of the student while at Dawson will also be considered

□ / The Harry Wagschal Memorial Prize for Humanities
one award of $500 / Beginning in 1969 until retirement, Harry Wagschal taught at Dawson College, as professor of Sociology and Humanities. He passed away on January 31, 2011 after a long illness. His family and friends have decided to sponsor this award in his honor / Must have completed or be in the process of completed all of their Humanities (345) classes. Student must have a satisfactory overall academic record and have an overall average of 70% in their Humanities courses / How will what you have learnt in your humanities classes relate to your future studies/career?

one award of $500 / Given to a student planning to go on to university studies in Art History, Cinema, Communications, Dance, Education, Fine Arts, Journalism, Languages, Liberal Arts, Music, or Philosophy / The basis for selecting the winner is as follows: scholarship, leadership, creativity, community involvement and financial need. / What are your particular interests in the field? The William McCallum Memorial Scholarship for the study of Law was established in 1977 in recognition of the contribution and many years of service given to Dawson College by the late William McCallum, Chairman of the Board of Governors from 1971 to 1977 / The William McCallum Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student who shows high probability of both responsible citizenship, academic and professional success
The basis for selecting winners is as follows: scholarship, character, leadership and community involvement / This award is renewable for a maximum of four years for those in good academic standing
