- Amazon Fiona
- Fiona was the code name of theKindle e-reader before it launched
- As you enter the Fiona lobby, turn left to see the previous versions of the kindle displayed on the wall.
- Every version of the Kindle that’s been released since it launched is on display from left to right with the white version near the window being the first version launched.
- Amazon Cricket (banana stand)
- Community banana stand staffed by local volunteers, also called “banistas”
- They hand out thousands of bananas to passersby every weekday
- The stand provides a free, healthy snack that’s easily compostable.
- Feel free to take a banana!

- Stop in at the café (333 Westlake Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109 – on the corner of Harrison St and Westlake Ave N)
- Students will be given the chance to hear about the open resources they can access during their time at UW through Capital One
- At the end of the quick presentation/talk, free drinks will be provided

- Walk into the lobby of Nessie
- Stand directly in the middle of the compass on the floor. This building’s theme is The Northwest Passage, so standing on the compass you’ll hear wildlife from that region.
- It’s very quiet so listen closely for the sound of birds
- Now turn to the right. Note the leaves on the wall –these are a symbol of Amazon’s partnership with Mary's Place, which provides shelter for homeless to women and childrenand families.
- UW Medicine (cross 9th street at Republican, just past the UW Medicine C building, make a right and enter the lobby of the C building)
- Researchers at UW Medicine's continually expanding biotechnology and medical research hub are working to develop life-changing therapies and medical breakthroughs. The SLU site includes five lab buildings, including the Rosen and Brotman Buildings, and an administration building (the one you’re in) that houses computational lab space and meeting venues.
- Next year construction will wrap up on an 8 story clinic and research building which will house retina and diabetes clinics, 5 floors of basic science and related clinical research labs, a 150 seat auditorium and a UW Neighborhood Clinic providing primary care services.
- The SLU complex is a sustainable, eco-friendly facility that provides a healthier environment for employees.
- The buildings include sustainable, high-performance features such as a highly efficient chilled beam radiant cooling system, significant natural day-lighting supplemented by automated lighting control systems in laboratory areas, and exterior sun shades that limit solar gain, further reducing energy use.
- Allen Institute
- The Allen Institute currently encompasses three entities:
- the Allen Institute for Brain Science – focused on creating valuable data, knowledge and tools that are openly shared through the Allen Brain Atlas data portal.
- the Allen Institute for Cell Science; whichaims to generate and share singular predictive and animated models of cells to enable researchers around the globe better insight into how our cells function; and
- The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group, supported by a shared administration group - whichidentifies opportunities where funding could create new knowledge and solve important problems to advance science and make the world a better place.
- The Institute is a recognized leader in large-scale research with a commitment to an open science model within its research institutes
- The Allen Institute was also the former home of Pivot Art +Culture – a 3,000 -square-foot concept space located on the ground floor. It was an art gallery, primarily open in the summer, as part of Vulcan Inc. and Paul G. Allen’s mission to make art accessible to the public.
