Work experience

Sep 1996 - presentFreelance translator (now trading as ‘Scantran Ltd’)

I undertake a wide variety of translation work for a large number of clients, translating from Norwegian, Danish and Swedish into English (my mother tongue). Examples of recent subjects covered include technical reports, engineering documents (e.g. tenders and orders), European Commission and EU reports and minutes, letters, financial audits, scientific reports, business documents, annual reports, marketing material, company profiles, web pages, etc. As a former professional geologist specialising in computer modelling, I am particularly well qualified to translate subject matters such as geology, the environment, general science/technology, IT and other related subjects.

I can produce translated text in a wide variety of formats including Word, Excel, WordPro and Freelance Graphics. I also use the Trados TM package, including TagEditor, when appropriate or required. Files can be sent by e-mail,CD or as hardcopy by fax or post. I aim to provide a service that is professional, confidential, accurate and reliable at all times. As I work full-time, I am able to take on urgent work at short notice.

I was involved in a wide variety of scientific work at the Geological Survey of Norway, including small-scale groundwater resource investigations for a number of local authorities. I was responsible for the implementation of such investigations in 3 local authority areas.

I also regularly carried out translation and editing work for the Geological Survey of Norway, working on reports for publication in both English and Norwegian. I also regularly worked with Danish and Swedish texts.

My duties at BirminghamUniversity involved the undertaking of a NERC research project on the effect of an open borehole on groundwater flows and chemistry involving both computer modelling and fieldwork. The work was written up as a PhD.

The creation of a groundwater sampling network in the Coventry area for the Coventry Groundwater Investigation, a project designed to investigate groundwater pollution in the Coventry area by organic chemicals.
