SAC/SAF MEETING

October 13, 2015

WELCOME: Ms. Sabrina Carter welcomed everyone at the meeting and thanked them for their support. Ms. Gibson gave a briefing of the minutes of the last meeting. Motion was passed to approve the minutes by Ms. Talley who requested a modification of the WestCampusSchool count, seconded by Ms. Bish.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Ms. Carter apologized for Ms. Dean’s absence and highlighted the upcoming events. She included that all students are encouraged and welcome to participate in the Idol Show in December. Ms. Daniels welcomed Ms. Cynthia Hicks, our new secretary at the Drew center. Ms. Talley was pleased to announce our Teacher of the Year, Ms. Julien and our school related employee of the year, Ms. Sophia Brown.

SAFETY/INVENTORY/ENROLLMENT/BUDGET: Ms. Talley said that safety drills were administered and all entrances must be kept locked at all times. She suggested having a buzzer that may help with the single point safety intervention. Ms. Daniels reported that Drew’s enrollment reads 229 students.

PRE-K HEADSTART UPDATE: Ms. Bish said that Tajuana Flats visited the children and gave books to them. October month the children will have visits from the Fire truck, and there will be several home visits conducted. The first parent meeting was October 14th. The fire truck will visit and the kids will also be doingRed Ribbon Week activities. Ms. Bish also said that the Federal Government Audit will be the last week of October.

DREW TEEN PARENT AND WEST CAMPUS UPDATE: Ms. Allen highlighted the activities for October for our teens and included that FTE week will be October 12 thru 15th. Ms Carter concluded that Ms. Kalish is ensuring that technology is up to par. Ms. Allen reported that the students will be using diagnostics for writing.

ADULT LITERACY UPDATE: Ms. Gibson welcomed all to the New School Year. She talked about the new financial incentives for students who are ready to take the Official GED Test and the current activities at our off campus centers. She also welcomed our grandparents and volunteers who are returning to work with our children and families. She reminded all present about our Harvest Drive and urged all to place their donated items in the orange box in the school cafeteria.

PARTNERSHIP: Ms. Gibson gave an update of Farm Share food distribution program and explained why they merged with Feeding South Florida. As of November, food items will be picked up at the Hallandale location. Farm Share will be giving our families and neighbors 100 lunches on Thanksgiving Day. Commissioner Welch said that the students will visit during government week.

SAF BUSINESS: Meeting opened at 2:37. New members were voted in for the 2015-2016 school year. Meeting date for next month is November 10, 2015.
