ELIGIBILITY

The course is open to teachers of engineering colleges and polytechnics approved by AICTE. No course fee is charged for participants sponsored by AICTE approved institutions.

Participants from Government departments and industries are also eligible, provided they meet their T.A. and D.A. and pay a course fee of Rs. 2500/- and Rs. 5000/-,respectively.

All payments must be made in the form of a DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank and in favor of QIP, IIT Guwahati, payable at Guwahati.

BOARDING AND LODGING

Boarding and lodging facilities will be provided for the selected candidates in the Institute Guest House (subject to availability)/ Hostels of the institute. An early response is therefore required for availing the facility.

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of the proposed course is to provide an overview of the multidisciplinary subject, environmental geotechnology, and its role in efficient hazardous and non-hazardous waste management. The course will be useful for academicians, environmentalists and practicing engineers.

COURSE CONTENTS

The short-term course will broadlycover the following topics:

  • Introduction to environmental geotechnology
  • Introduction to engineered waste management practices
  • Role of soil in waste management
  • Basic and advanced characterization of soil for its use in waste containment
  • Field investigation relevant to waste containment
  • Importance of mathematical modeling in designing waste containment
  • Need for further research

FACULTY

Mostly faculty members of IIT Guwahati and some guest faculty members from other premier institute/ organization will be invited to deliver lectures.

COURSE MATERIAL

Each registered participant will be provided with a set of lecture notes.

ABOUT IIT GUWAHATI

IIT Guwahati campus is located on 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 km from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on other side, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning. Guwahati city (situated at 910 44’ E longitude & 260 10’ N latitude) is gateway to beautiful North East region of the country and linked with all major cities by rail, road and air. The weather in Guwahati during the month of Novemberis quite pleasant. Buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis are available from GuwahatiCity to the IIT Guwahati Campus. Institute buses are available at frequent intervals infront of Hotel President at Pan Bazar (about ½ kms away from Guwahati Railway Station).

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Limited number of Participants from AICTE recognized institutions will be eligible for AC III tier to and fro railway fare* via shortest route and free lodging and boarding during course period. Candidates attending the course in full only will be eligible for TA and DA. For all other participants, no TA/DA will be paid by IIT Guwahati.
