Proposal Guidelines and Priorities

(Revised May 29, 2012)

The purpose of this fund is to support activities that enhance the professional competence and exposure of faculty of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. The proposal categories, listed below, are of equal priority to the College.

(1)Support for intensive educational experiences for the faculty of the College. This may include intensive short courses or brief professional workshops (may be part of a conference) at various universities, governmental, or industrial centers.

(2)Underwriting seminars or short courses that would bring in distinguished, highly qualified persons, including our own faculty who have developed unique expertise, to hold a one or two-day seminar session on topics that would benefit one or more of the departments in the College. Such seminars may invite employees of regional industry to participate.

(3)Provide "seed money" for workshops or conferences, to be held at OhioUniversity, that would benefit members of the College and bring recognition to the College.

(4)Funding the expense of faculty to attend and participate in appropriate regional, national, or international professional/technical meetings/conferences or trade-shows. Preference will be given to active participants, e.g., presentation or discussion of papers.

(5)Support to help faculty finish a project that relates to faculty enrichment where a small amount of additional resources will bring the project to completion.

(6)Travel support for faculty members who are on national technical or professional committees, task forces, or planning groups that are of importance to their department or the College.

(7)Travel support for faculty members who hold important or significant elected offices in regional, national, or international technical or professional societies related to the department of college.

To maximize leverage of Stocker Enrichment Funds, it is expected that proposals be matched by at least 25% funds. Note that availability of matching funds must be confirmed by your Department Chair's signature on the application form. Eligible funds include external, research incentive, center, or departmental funds. Discounts of any kind are not considered eligible matching funds. If at least 25% matching funds are not available, your department’s chair must state the reasons why funds are not available and sign in the section of the proposal form marked Discussion of Special Circumstances for Consideration by the Committee.

In addition, any information useful in making a decision regarding funding should be attached to the proposal. Such information might include requirement of early registration fee by the conference, if your paper was invited, or any circumstance not covered in other sections of the proposal.

There are other considerations that must be recognized. First, preference will be given to applicants who have not been funded during the year. Second, separate proposals are required for each activity to be funded. Third, if multiple proposals are submitted during any review period, the priority (ranking) of the proposals (to the applicant) must be stated in the proposal.

Proposals will be reviewed three times during the year. The submission dates are approximately October 1, February 1, and May 1. If special opportunities arise during the year that the faculty could not have known about before these deadline dates, these proposals may be considered separately. However, every effort should be made to submit proposals at the regular intervals.
