DIRECTOR - Open Age

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the trustees, the Director has overall responsibility for directing the organisation, leading the staff team and working with them to:

·  Provide effective leadership, manage, develop and co-ordinate the work of the organisation

·  Raise its funding

·  Manage Finance Manager to manage the organisation’s finances

·  Sustain and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of policy makers, agencies and funders

·  Ensure the involvement of members in growing , developing and running the organisation and its activities

·  Continue to identify local interests and skills as the basis on which to develop new activities and extend the organisation’s services

·  Develop the vision and direction of the organisation

To support the overall objectives, the Director will have to manage a team of skilled managers but will have ultimate responsibility for:

Development & Management of Services

·  Ensuring quality and effectiveness in the delivery of projects, services and management of premises

·  Networking and keeping up to date with local and national policies affecting older people to ensure the organisation makes the best use of new opportunities – viz. in education, arts, health, social services, housing and leisure services

·  Keeping effective data and records with which to plan and underpin service developments and account to funders

·  Ensuring health and safety, insurance and other legal requirements are met at all times

Special Projects

·  Leading on project development of new centres and projects

Staff and Leadership Management

·  Developing, supervising and supporting staff

·  Agreeing standards and targets and identifying and implementing training

·  Co-ordinating recruitment, selection and induction of new staff

Promotion, Marketing

Effectively positioning the organisation and maintaining a good public profile

Marketing the organisation’s services

Representing the organisation at local and national meetings

Fundraising:

·  Generating income and fundraising from new sources

·  Developing successful fundraising strategies and achieving funding targets

·  Monitoring projects, developing quality assurance standards and reporting to funders

·  Sustaining good relations with key supporters and funders

Financial Management

Within guidelines provided by the Treasurer and the organisation’s financial procedures:

- Ensuring production of the annual budget

- Monitoring & controlling project budgets

- Ensuring the production of management accounts

- Ensuring value for money in the costs of delivering projects and services

Servicing the Organisation

Servicing Trustee committee meetings, providing reports and policy papers as required

Recruiting, inducting, and providing support to Trustees

Making policy recommendations to trustees

Keeping up with Charity law and advising the Trustees

Ensuring Charity Commission rules are maintained

Overseeing Administration

Ensuring IT management, including effective information systems and well maintained databases

Ensuring efficient office systems

Ensuring the organisation’s legal, health and safety obligations are observed at all times

Any other duties - that may from time to time be reasonably required.
