This thesis work will be carried out within the Department of Propulsion Energy Systems, which is a part of VCC´s Product and Quality organization.
We are dedicated to electrify our brand in a broad effort with Plug-In Hybrids (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). At the engineering department of Propulsion Energy Systems, we are responsible for design and delivery of the technical solution of Traction Battery systems and High Voltage Charging solutions for electrified vehicles. We cover the complete product development of mechanical, electrical and software. We are the core competence center in Northern Europe in regards to Lithium Ion technology and automotive battery systems.

Volvo Cars,Diagnose A&V Charging & Battery, Fault Tracer group is a group focusing on verification of the diagnostic systems for the Traction Battery and the HV Charging Systems, used in electrified vehicles. We are taking part in the SW-development and working for an increased robustness of all electric vehicles.

Background

Testing of modern vehicles typically involves handling vast amounts of recorded data. Raw data from the communication between electrical control units (ECU’s) is saved together with data from various sensors, actuators and internal variables. The sheer amount of data makes analysis both tedious and time consuming.
There risk that important events are missed would decrease if the recorded data could be screened in advance using a rule based engine.

Scope

  • Development of an extensible and rule based screening framework.
  • Evaluate different methods for screening huge data sets
  • Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the selected methods
  • Develop a tool that makes it possible to link data from several sources together.
  • Development of an electronic archive for huge amounts of data together with a web based interface for storing Meta data.
  • The students will work in the EPS Systems Integration section together with our teams of Test Engineers. Weperform system level SW integration, analysis and verification.

Profile

  • Deep knowledge in algorithms and design
  • Some expericence and interest of signal processing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of parsing techniques and databases is beneficial.
  • Self-motivated and meticulous in your problem solving approach.
  • Communication skills are important since information will be needed from several different parts of the department.

Duration

  • Period: 1 semester, 30 ECTS points
  • Starting date: January 2018
  • Number of students: Suitable for 1-2 student.
