Dancing for the Health of It!

A free program to prevent and manage diabetes

Join us fora fun, innovative, diabetes-friendly place to dance that includes all ages, abilities, types of diabetes, family and friends, along with all kinds of music, light dance instruction and freestyle dance opportunities.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

  • Monthly dances for the non-dancer in a supportive environment
  • On-site certified diabetes educators to answer questions and assist with low sugar (glucose)
  • Light dance instruction and freestyle dance venues
  • A variety of music genres and dance styles
  • Nutrition tips with recipes
  • Professional and personalized diabetes feedback by monitoring key health markers such as glucose, A1C (3-month glucose), blood pressure, and weight
  • Free for people at-risk or with diabetes in the 94124, 94132 areas & beyond

2011 Schedule

Sessions are held at the Bayview Hunters Point Y, 1601 Lane St, S.F. 94124 from 1:00 am to 3:00 pm. Arrive promptly for check-in.

 Bring water, snacks; wear comfortable clothes and supportive shoes.

Influenced by western music this style features energy and strength with group choreography and a keen attention to rhythm and melody.

You’ve seen it, now learn how to dance it, (or at least a part) just in time for Halloween. All Michael Jackson tunes for the free-dance session.

Hip Hop

Learn one of the latest social and contemporary dance styles that feature three forms: breaking, popping and locking (but not hips, joints or doors!). Fun dancing to modern music!
