The document tells of the agreement between Columbus and Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain before leaving on his first voyage to get to Asia. Columbus took the original document with him on his first voyage and upon his return it was kept in a monastery, but is currently lost. A copy, which is currently kept in Barcelona, Spain is what you are looking at here. This document is the format for most later exploration agreements.
