Dance Team contract

- TeenCompetitive Team

Congratulations! You have been chosen to be on an ATJ Dance Team. The first step to becoming

a successful dancer is making a solid commitment to your classes, rehearsals, and performances. Strong technique is a key ingredient and class is where you develop that technique. Come to each class prepared to learn and without personal distractions. Class time is your chance to focus on yourself, so try to leave your concerns or worries at the studio door. True progress is made when you look at each class, rehearsal, or performance as an opportunity to become better at what you love to do. Dance full out, stretch a little further, become more aware of your technique, and make the most of every class.

Respect for the teachers and choreographers you work with is essential. Listen to each correction given, whether it’s directed to you or another dancer. A correction is an honor; it shows you how much a teacher cares about your progress as a dancer. Always say thank you when a teacher or choreographer offers you constructive criticism. Nothing can stop those students who apply themselves in every class and appreciate their teachers’ knowledge and experience.

All rehearsals are dedicated to choreography or “cleaning” the choreography. A dancer who misses a rehearsal holds back the progress of the entire group. Repeating the choreography from a previous session for those who were absent takes up valuable rehearsal time, which could result in a performance that is not up to par. When we clean choreography, we may also make minor changes to the choreography. Dancers who miss a cleaning session may not be properly prepared for the upcoming performance and could end up letting themselves, their team, or the school down.

Performances and competitions are your opportunity to show the world the results of your dedication and hard work. To make the most of this opportunity:

-Arrive at performances at least one hour prior to the scheduled time, unless otherwise advised by your teacher.

-Be sure you are properly warmed up.

-Present yourself in a professional manner, with all costumes pressed, shoes cleaned, and all accessories

accounted for.

-Go out there and show the audience how much you love to dance!

The children and parents involved in the ATJ Team Program participate in many outside activities, each of which becomes a reflection of the school’s philosophy. Please keep in mind that we at All That Jazz Dance Co. never speak negatively about each other, teachers, or other dancers and parents

Classes, Rehearsals and Other Information

The ATJ Team Program is based on many hours of classes a week. Students prepare for competitions in choreography classes and develop their skills in technique classes. All dancers are expected to attend their regularly scheduled classes in addition to all rehearsals and performances.

Rehearsals are an important part of the commitment to the ATJ Team Program. All dancers are

expected to work hard and arrive early enough to give themselves time to warm up. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled at the discretion of the teacher/ choreographer. All dancers are required to participate. ATJ team members must be prepared to spend some holiday Mondays and P.A. Days at the studio rehearsing. Team members are not allowed to miss more than seven class days or rehearsals over the season. *NEW* If a team member misses 2 class days or rehearsals in one month without contacting the office, their position on an ATJ dance team will be up for review. Team members with poor attendance may be dismissed from the program after reviewing the individual situation.

Any dancer excused from a rehearsal/class is responsible for learning any missed choreography prior to arriving for the next rehearsal/class. All dancers must have absences approved by the director via email. The dance season starts in September and ends in May. Training for the following dance year and auditions are conducted in June. All ATJ Dance Team members must attend rehearsals in proper dance attire and appropriate shoes. Female team members are required to wear their hair pulled back off the face for all rehearsals. All dancers must show respect for their teachers at all times. Inappropriate behavior could result in dismissal from the program. Proper attire is expected for ballet classes which includes hair pulled neatly into a bun, ballet pink tights, light pink ballet shoes and plain black body suit.

It is expected that all dancers will be on their best behavior during rehearsals and work as team

players at all times. An Absence Request email must be received and approved at least 24 hours in advance in order to be excused from classes and rehearsals. Absences will not be approved the month prior to a competition.

Injury/Illness: If a dancer is sick or injured and will miss class a parent must notify the office a.s.a.p. by email. Dancers are required to stay home if they are really sick and contagious. Your coach will let you know if a private lesson is required before coming back to class. If a dancer is not feeling 100% they are encouraged to still come to class and just do what they can. If a student is injured or sick more than 2 weeks they will be excused from team to heal properly. A doctor’s note is required for tuition payments to be stopped. Competition Fees and Costume Fees may be non-refundable depending on the time of year.

DISCIPLINE PROTOCOL

1st time - warning

2nd time – asked to leave class

Dancer will not participate in class until teacher has a chance to talk to them one-on-one and decides if they are ready to come back to class.

IF POOR BEHAVIOUR PERSISTS (ie. 2-3 times over a week) Director will call home to discuss behaviour with parents. If deemed necessary a meeting will be set up with Director, Teacher, Dancer and Parents.

IF POOR BEHAVIOUR DOES NOT IMPROVE & IS AFFECTING THE SUCCESS OF THE TEAM Dancer will be asked to leave the team.

Examples of why a student would receive a warning:

-Being disrespectful to a coach (talking back, not listening in class, bad attitude)

-Constant issues with dress code or hair being in your face.

-Lack of focus in class (100% effort expected at all times, No Marking)

-Constant issues with lateness.

-Failure to email or call the office when sick/injured/late/absent.

-Talking negatively about each other, teachers, other dancers/parents, or the studio

PLEASE NOTE: If you have a concern please contact the office immediately. Do not discuss your concerns with other parents.
